There's lots of good info on these forums about running your central heating efficiently. Hopefully it's switched off now for summer? you've got a while to sort out changes before winter that will help keep the bills down.

Yes it’s all off … only the hot water on. I have tried my best to keep on top of the timer and making sure we switch everything off however I feel it’s time to go a step further and stop the tumble dryer whenever possible and also cut some other bits out. I’m also relieved to have worked through the figures with regards to the fix tariff so now I just need to know whether to stick or twist! 😬

Make sure you don't have an immersion heater that's unwittingly been left on.

You brought up the dryer, how about the washer? I use quick wash a lot, our clothes aren't really dirty, only need a freshen up, 30 or 40C. If they need a bit more of a wash I use the Eco mode on 40C, takes hours but supposed to save on elec/water. Eco mode on dishwasher too.

I'm sticking with the SVT for now but it might turn out to be a bad choice, fingers crossed.

I’m always confused by the eco mode with regards to electricity. How can it save when it’s on for hours? Does eco only relate to the water?

I need to think about SVT be Fixed … not quite decided what to do 🤔

Shorter washes use extra agitation. Longer ones let laundry soak so the detergent does the work instead.

    Hi @JoJo24601

Wow you got the full might of responses ☺️

The energy saving advice is great and will really help you cut down on your costs.

If you have a smart meter display in house you can also track your savings looking at last week etc if you reduce tumble drying etc you can see the effect.

(Electric oven)We used to have the oven on 7-8 times a week and now down to 3-4. Bit of batch cooking and microwaving and some reduce further with an air fryer or slow cooker.

Washing has reduced 2 loads a week and now at 30oC and tumble drying down from 7 times a week to 5 and times not on a program so we know it uses 40-50p per use and not over £1

    Nothing left on standby anymore

Small steps at first then build upon it and get the family involved as well.

    👍
