  • Sorry to hear this. Were you expecting to be paid for your time off? I think your best option is using every penny you have to go towards essentials. This might mean things get dropped because you can't afford it but it's only temporary. I agree with badbookeeper re setting up pots for things like car mot and service then when all the pots have been filled each month looking at what's left for debt repayment. Keep going and try to enjoy your holiday x

Hey @Squirrelz92, what a great diary! I'm rooting for you, and I can see that PADding is becoming quite addictive! It does really make a difference to chuck little bits at the debt, but don't get yourself too bogged down with trying to clear it in a shorter timeframe. I am guilty of doing this at times and it although it's exciting to see it gone, it does become stressful. But you're doing great and I hope you have a great trip to Turkey. Are you going for the week? I'm going there all inclusive early July 2023, I can't wait! xx

Ps. Re the PAD do you just transfer money to your CC as our finance deal says we have to notify them before we make an additional payments ( Barcla& partner finance) which makes me think PAD ing us out the question lol as I don't have time for that! X
I have Barclaycard and I PAD all the time. I've got it set up on my faster payments, so I just transfer the money over whenever I can. x

Oh sorry @adeley, I think I might have misunderstood. Mine is a credit card. But I have a finance plan with Creation and I make additional payments onto that as well via faster payment or on their online portal.

  • Even if it's 50p a day, or even 10p! a reduction of your debt is a benefit to you. Don't leave yourself short though, so maybe put PADs into a holding pot and pay it to the CC at the end of the month?

Thank you for dropping by @Keedie! Means a lot! Yes we are going for a week all inclusive and it couldn't come soon enough as it's been almost 4 years. Where abouts in Turkey are you heading in 2023? We are holidaying in Sarigerme :) I must agree in that I have been truly focused on reaching a certain figure for overpayments that with this hiccup I feel defeated. But like you say I need to chip away no matter how small as it all contributes to the end goal of being debt free :)

Morning @Deleted_User. No I did request the time off unpaid as I have hardly any holiday left (had to use it for childcare so a few days off without children is precious!). Just didnt think I would lose so much money over 1.5 days! Yes i think I will definitely be setting up pots for MOT and service once this years work is out of the way. I know I am going to have to use my EF but that is what it is there for right?

Hi @LittleMissDetermined, I agree there. I shall keep popping in £1 each day to keep things going :) I have my round ups from spending set to go into my CC pot so at the end of the month I can whack that in too. I was going to do that this month but then of course I needed to put it all into EF.

Oh well, another period for me! Starting over with less money than last month and more events occurring so we shall see how we go! After being paid and all bills going into pots I have £421 left to last me another 4 weeks. I will still receive CSA at the end of the month as per but this doesn't count as it always goes straight back out to pay for childcare. Three lots of £150 from my partner to pay his half of the bills and child benefit of £140. If this lot was there in spirit in my current account I would have a grand total of £1011 to get me through. £179 will be sucked right out for my car before any work is done and with diesel and food prices continuing to rise... its going to be an interesting 4 weeks! But I have faith!!!! I have £488.29 in the EF which I am really hoping I can keep there!

I got my payout for Molly's treatment at the vets as I had to take out a loan to pay the vets there and then. From £554 I received £368.24 after paying the £99 excess and being responsible for 20% of the cost thereafter. This loan was paid off first thing this morning. My balance was £432 so used funds from the EF to get rid entirely. Wanted to avoid that first DD payment on the 21st for almost £45! I am expecting another reimbursement for her euthanasia but currently arguing over the amount as they want to take another £99 excess off me which isn't right considering it's under the same claim. You should only have to pay it once. Aah well, any money back from this is good as I didn't even know I could claim it! Whatever is received from this will go straight back into the EF where it came from.

The sun is shining and I have my childrens sports day to attend this morning so a very short day at work for me by the time I get there! Definitely using holiday hours so I dont lose pay next period! Have a good day folks!

I think you’re doing very well and it may seem overwhelming, and setbacks will naturally make you feel disheartened. But you’ve got focus, and you have a plan, so it will come together.

We’re going to Side, Antalya next year in Turkey as a treat for when my son finishes his GCSEs. We’ve done the odd UK break, but not been abroad since 2019, so it’ll be 4 years for us by then too. We don’t even have current passports so I’ve got to get that sorted. His child one runs out in September and he’s 16 in October, so I need to budget for that too. It’s all starting to add up 😬. Have a great holiday and enjoy your all inclusive knowing that things are covered. It doesn’t take much to keep kids happy on holidays and hopefully there’ll be a kids club to give them a variety of fun. So if budget wise you can’t do a banana boat, they’ll be none the wiser and won’t be short on fun anyway. xx

  • I know things will be tight this month, and you feel disheartened. But think of it the other way around, once you’re successfully through this month (or period), those with full pay will be a doddle!

Thanks @Keedie :) I suppose it wouldn't be a true challenge or achievement if there weren't natural bumps in the road. This period is a new one and I shall do my best to have funds in my current account by the end of it! Oooh I haven't been to that part of Turkey before! It certainly does stack up cost wise. I presume you are paying it off in instalments with it being in 2023? Luckily for us both mine and my children's passports don't run out until 2025 but that will definitely hurt x3 when the time comes to renew. We always go to the same umbrella hotels of First Choice specifically because its soo damn good for kids! Clubs left, right and centre so hopefully they will be too busy to even think of asking for anything else as its all included!

Yes you are right there @LittleMissDetermined :) Once I am through July and beginning of August (DS birthday) it will get better... although I can't stomach the thought of Xmas right now as I don't have a pot for that *trots off to set one up instantly*. It sneaks up so quickly! x
