Debt and Caring

Hi @WelshmansDaughter
Thanks for visiting my diary. I thought I'd return your visit and have just caught up on your diary. If you can repay your debts within 3 years on your current income level that's pretty good going. Even if it takes longer - it's still good. Your reasons for going into debt sound much more justifiable than most - including my own. It took me 5-6 years to get out of my debt. I think the pro of diary world is people share their experience and we can learn hints and tips - the con is that we often binge read other people's diaries and think it came easy and forget it took years. I too had been in debt multiple times before.
What you are doing for your parents is amazing. I couldn't do it. Don't sell yourself short. To get the level of care you are providing would cost thousands. You are one amazing woman.
Be kind to yourself. Better to pace yourself and have some things to look forward to than throw all your money at debt at this point. I think the £30 a week pocket money is a great decision.
You've said you struggle with over-spending when shopping. Would getting food delivered be an option. I spend less when I don't go in the shop. You could then use that time to go for a coffee or something instead. Just a thought.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

turns out it is a nudist section on that particular beach. You don't find these things out in winter/spring. All I can say is, hope they brought plenty of sunscreen....Looking after your own health and well-being is important and worthwhile when caring for another. Putting on your own oxygen mask in order to best help others.
I have been repeating this to myself a lot lately. Slowly sinking inDo your best with the debt but be kind to yourself while you are paying it off. I liked what you said about being a number on a spreadsheet to the bank and you treating the banks the same as numbers on your spreadsheet.
it would be nice if it was more of a two way street. Based more on human psychology and abilities rather than calendar or other imaginary restrictions.2 -

I think I do struggle with the idea of timeframes. I am guilty of thinking it is going to hang over my head forever. I have been thinking about breaking it up into manageable targets.
What you are doing for your parents is amazing. I couldn't do it. Don't sell yourself short. To get the level of care you are providing would cost thousands. You are one amazing woman.
<blushes> not really. If there was someone with the time and skills I'd hand him over in a heartbeat.

sadly this hasn't worked this week- I can see how it happened though.

it is way better than going in the shop- I used to get aldi when they were on deliveroo, so much easier. I'm setting up a master list of things we buy regularly so hopefully I won't forget as many things.
Although I'm still not sure I understand angel delight 🤣2 -
€30 spending money didn't work this week as I am still unused to having time off and go a bit mad left to my own devices.
Working extra hours babysitting until the end of June. I haven't included this in any calculations. It always starts out with a plan like 3 days a week but ends up cancelled here and there.
I would like to reach a point where I can spend money on other things without it subtracting from debt repayment but I have yet to reach that balance.2 -
It's a strange feeling, doing too much and too little all at the same time.
Went off the rails completely in lidl, spending €113 on the food shop. I did stock up on cleaning supplies (for reasons that will become apparent), bought a list of stuff for Teacup and the usual I remembered that I want to make this so I'll buy ingredients.
Most of it should last two weeks and I'll be shopping from home in that time to avoid going to the shop again.
Got completely overloaded yesterday worrying about Dad, didn't eat lunch and then bought takeaway pizza for dinner.
I would like to take up running but have realized that I am in dire need of a new sports bra as I'm pretty sure this one is 5 years old or more.
Struggling shopping in Ireland as I don't really know where to get anything, the places have tried so far don't have my size. Tried the UK website only to find a £15 delivery charge.
I'm still at that point where I feel like I am behind with everything and think I will dedicate this week coming to getting ahead, the house needs a major deep clean as Dad is getting infections and I want to get on top of that. Also teacup and heavy are hoarders and a big problem is having nowhere to put anything.1 -
Have discovered that colouring books are quite soothing so that is being added to the list of free hobbies. Eventually I hope to build up to the majority of stress busting being low cost or free.
Have downloaded a couch 2 5k app. I've been taking iron tablets fairly regularly and don't feel like I'm gasping for air when I run now.
Cleaned the coffee machine with the hoover this morning 🤣🤣🤣 Modern conveniences seem to just take the work from one place and put it somewhere else. This machine has way too many nooks and crannies so Henry had to get involved.1 -
You may also like colouring postcards. I find them great as they double as a thoughtful card for virtually any occasion. They also fit more easily into a handbag.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

WD, if your running bra has "relaxed" due to washing and wearing, try wearing a normal bra underneath it.
Or wear two normal bras.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2 -
