Some people can be absolute rubbish.  My sister has recently had walking issues & had to have an operation on her spine.  It stands out those people who completely disappeared & those who didn't.  Even an ex (very long term) boyfriend stood up tp be counted, along with a fairly new neighbour & some others.  But a 40year friend disappears from the window if they see her & another friend has completely dropped away.  Definitely fair weather friends who were happy to take the help when they needed it.  People just don't realise how much an hello, how are you can mean, when things aren't so great.  They could even have asked you how you were doing!

  • Onwards and upwards.

Thinking that I might use the unexpected employment money to book a campervan so I can take Dad on a mini summer holiday.
I'm not yet sure that I can make saving for it and the minimum payment so thats more maths for when I'm caffeinated.

@badmemory I hope your sister is doing ok.
Dad has had some mobility issues and I have been surprised how difficult it can be to get around.
I have mentally crossed some people off the list after this- one of which was always on the questionable list tbh.

    thanks @doingitanyway

  • Currently eating lunch to the sound of rain...
    On my washing sigh.
The postman helped me get dad up this morning and delivered my Holland and barratt order. Only ordered it yesterday!
2 shelves of the fridge cleaned and now I remember how it got so dirty. I hate cleaning fridges.
The idea that I can make my own place exactly as I want it is now a powerful motivator to get my finances in order. I've been living in a goldilocks house for over a year and it is doing my head in. Just measured the kitchen countertops and they are 57 cm across. No wonder my front is wet.

Sorry about the washing but I. love the sound of rain...I know...
    Love your postman.
I lived in a house with just a small square of work surface for kitchen countertops. Things got knocked off and broken.
I hope you get the kitchen more to your suiting soon.

  • @doingitanyway The postman rang the doorbell twice and between that and the dog barking Dad woke up 😀
The kitchen is not mine. This is my parents house and my mother is extremely resistant to change. Extremely. I have cheapo Amazon breakfast bars in my kitchen at home. Love them.

Did the food shop by myself for the first time since moving back.
€71 or roughly £60. Which aims to be for 2 people, occasionally a third. It wasn't a deeply planned out trip. It was a carer for an hour, 14 min drive round trip kind of shop.

    observations

I remember what confused me about weekly shopping costing. Some of the stuff I bought will last two weeks. Or longer.

I bought bags of mix vegetables as trying to add fibre to Dad's diet. These were probably not something I would buy if I was on the frugal self choice route.

Lidl is an annoying place to shop. There isn't a huge variety of vegetables and I couldn't buy straws for Dad. So I had to go somewhere else for those.

I am not sure about going in with a plan. I had thought about making pulled pork but lidl had no pork that looked appropriate so I think that would annoy if I had planned it all out.

You don't have to plan exactly, but have a loose plan that you can adapt.
For example, if you have stuffed veggies on the plan just stuff whatever veg are cheap and look good. No rice for stuffing? Use a different grain...that sort of thing...
Also using offers and planning around them is very MSE
Do you not do frozen veg?

I remember the relief of an hour to yourself because the carer is there...
