  • If you project to pay whatever you can and that shows you will be free of credit card debt in 31 months then roll with that and any little overpayments you make will chip that date down and the grant payment will swoop it down.
I feel debt planning can be so negative as you want to be able to will it down but, realistically, it is such a slow game.

Total Debt May 21 £20,490.44  DEBT FREE DATE 29/7/22

    Mortgage balance May 21 £177,096.19. Now £146,747.17
Mortgage free date. At start of sole mortgage = July 2042

2024 SAVINGS FOCUS - get rid of the car finance. Savings balance/outstanding balance = £11,857.56/£12,706.25
2025 Savings Focus - 33.3/33.3/33.3 split; savings for house renovations (bathrooms/garden/kitchen; whichever collapses first), save for a family holiday (probably our last one!) and paydown/offset the mortgage
  • @Tiredbutdetermined there is a real danger of making it into a fun game where you get carried away paying it all off quickly then feel flat when it's all over. Better to do the slog and feel sick of it by the end.

Managed to spend €58 in tesco then got back into the car and Heavy says did you get the dog food? Em no. Even though it was the only thing we'd run out of.

It's not the cheapest supermarket but I take dad out to the mountains in the afternoon and it's on the way home.

  • Broke the holding pattern a bit by using the money formerly known as Bad Teeth to make payments.
    £200 to CC1, £190 to CC2. This is a £59 overpayment as the min payment is £131.

Just waiting to see if the grant money comes through tomorrow and then how to allocate. I keep forgetting my house insurance is due in July.

Thinking I might try and find things to earn money but keep getting stymied. Locked out of a survey website think it was OnePoll. YouGov haven't sent the validation email despite multiple requests.

Have a pair of shoes I could sell I think just working up the energy. The main website here for selling second hand is a bit mad

  • Currently roasting a whole head of garlic and the smell is wafting around the kitchen. Definite bonus of being around MSE diaries has been the cooking inspiration.
Money wise still yo yoing a bit- low mood these days. I have only had 9 full days off since April 2021 and it is definitely getting me down. Missing be able to go places and do things at my own pace.
But the flipside has been learning what really matters. And appreciating the little things. Like roasted garlic.
I'm thinking sourdough bread (not hm), chicken liver pate, garlic spread and apricot jam.
Good thing I bought all that gym equipment
  • The lure of the yellow sticker proved too much for me. As did the third trip to tesco in as many days. Bought all the things that I forgot yesterday and still got home and went lemon juice!
Meal planning it is. Although I did get a sirloin beef roast reduced from €19.45 to €7.79.

Great to grow your own greens. I. look forward to doing the same one day soon.

Good deal on the YS beef

Your teeth are more important than creditors. Whats the plan for your teeth now?
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Emergency fund 100/1000
    Buffer fund 0/100
    Debt Free (again) 25/072025
  • Went to bed last night wondering if the grant money would arrive. Now it has I have realized that I still have to transfer it to the UK so no paying off to be done today.
Annoying as I was a bit hyped up.
Transferred 2007.70 to leave myself with a nice even 100. I have mentally designated this as spending money for the month.

    Next Steps

See how much arrives in UK bank account
Pay off CC1- double check calculations first
Empty fridge and freezer- use up everything we already have before buying more (within dietary constraints)
    Clean fridge and freezer
Consider haircut- could do myself but do I really need more 'jobs'?
Assess cost of hobbies- what can I do is small amounts of time so I don't get overwhelmed again

  • @doingitanyway teeth wise it was more of a panic response as Dad's infection had started in his teeth. Two teeth are broken (1 long term). The dentist was nice to Dad so I let that cloud my judgement a bit, I wasn't happy that she wouldn't give me a definite price for the extraction. Not to mention the post it! I have started investigating other options.

Growing your own veg is not something I have managed to do consistently but I'm starting small and trying to build it up
  • Still no sign of the money arriving in my UK account. Twiddling my thumbs until the GBP amount is confirmed but thinking that:
I will pay off (and cancel if I can make myself) CC1.
Put the mortgage payment in the account so I am a month ahead.
See how much is left to make CC payments with.

I pretty much abandoned any hope of not doing any more food shopping once I realised I was out of bacon.

And got annoyed at myself for setting such a strict parameter when the point was to be balanced.

Very spendy day yesterday as petrol is now over 2 euro a litre. Thankfully the car is Teacup's responsibility. Although I keep reminding myself it is Dad's money too.

My poor over sensitive self got criticized at work yesterday, between that and the energy use spent the day eating everything. Hence spendy and tired day. Did start doing balance calculations to see if there was any point in moving money around. As far as my tired brain could see there was no benefit. I did find a calculator that showed me the monthly payment over time- can replicate in a spreadsheet or just take the lazy option of changing the balance and months.

Will sit down and do a review once my brain is capable of changing direction again.
