I think being in the small room means the contrast between space and stuff is more pronounced. Adding the plastic box takes up a big amount of space. Having my lap desk out takes up more. So I have a visual of how the space looks when I'm trying to use it and I have a lot of stuff.

The visual load as you let things go can reduce which should make the room more restful for you. I still haven't finished sorting things since I cleared out the downstairs cupboard. I intended to sell some stuff - but instead it's adding to the visual load in my lounge. Will try and tackle it today.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I thoroughly recommend writing the stuff that you intend to do down on blank A4 pieces of paper. Brain dumping, visual maps, narrative to dos have all gone into my trip planning.

I agree. I use here and/or my journal. But at one point my to do list was just getting too long - so sometimes I restrict myself to a top 3...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Things caught up to me yesterday and wound up letting go of my emotions instead of my stuff.
Necessary I suppose but the timing could have been better.
I'd like to have a slow gentle quiet day to myself to recover but that will have to be in my head

Sorry it was an emotional day. As you say - sometimes it's required. Keep plodding.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Bit better today. Although that may be the result of the dominos I ate last night
Teacup was feeling like being helpful so she looked after Dad and I went out for a walk to the local village. Had a look in the charity shop and bought two non fiction books. Then I sat outside the cafe with a coffee and a madeleine, pretending I was in France.
After lunch I was travelling to the airport to pick up Heavy so on the way I went to a charity furniture warehouse. I used to visit these at home in Scotland and so it was nice to do something that felt like it was from my old life. I didn't buy anything but looked around for inspiration for my room project. It is likely that most of the stuff there is out of my price range, I've never seen a charity shop label their stuff with designer names and styles before.
There are three little shops on the way home from Friday work so I popped in to have a wander round there too. Came out with two more books, this time related to art and food projects.
It looks like I may have another source of income from the 19th. We're going to trial a 3 week month, basically doing the school run. If it doesn't work out it will be a shame but it has opened up another option for potential employment.
Borrowing money for a haircut this evening from Teacup, she said I could have it but decided to borrow. I'm having a problem with my scalp and dermatitis so I need a haircut that is easier to manage. Looking a bit Worzel Gummidge at the moment which after watching far too many hoarder programmes I am very conscious of as a sign of self neglect.2 -
I still don't understand why you are happy to help your parents without charging them but won't let them help you in return... Just a thought.
Glad you are getting your hair done.
Enjoy your new books.
Hope new job works out.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

How it works is I have one of her credit cards and most of the time I use that for spending on food etc. It is a bit arbitrary and honestly sometimes I buy myself things on it because she's been stressing me out.
It can be difficult to judge what's ok to spend on and what isn't. I did spend her money on food for my trip as well.
