Oh your poor naive souls. I have 5 uniform shirts, two pairs of shorts, one leggings and one trousers. In winter I can get away with wearing a shirt for two days in a row if I haven't been up too many stairs.
I don't know what they make the uniform out of, I suspect it is recycled posties, but it smells even if I don't 🤷
I do have the uniform credit, I got it when I had two jobs as they both required uniform.
It is 5.50 for a wash on its own, which is not bad as the launderette is around 6. They also provide the detergent. But it is quite a faff 30 minutes round trip walk, then have to occupy myself while the laundry is on etc. Best I think to use it for a big wash (they have 20kg machines so I can wash duvets or my weighted blanket) rather than regular weekly.
I did do a couple of washes at sisters but there were a couple of digs along the lines of was I going to turn up with washing every week... Then of course the complete opposite was said a week later. Sister very much on edge just now so not poking the bear is the way to go.
There was a sad lack of overeating too stymied. Although I did have four slices of toast for breakfast and half a pudding with an alarming amount of brandy butter. But all in all quite restrained for me.
My plans for January are rather up in the air just now, trying to figure something out other than just work and recovering from work

My experience might help in your decision making...

I had no machine. For months I trudged all the washing to the laundrette, no car remember...feeling like a literal bag lady. It was tiring and expensive and depressing...Being MSE, I bought a SH washing machine. Paid to get it connected. WM deposited sludge and bits on my clothes. Paid to get it taken away. Bought a decent WM. Order restored...

  • To be fair I usually go to KFC for a cookie and tea while my laundry is on. When I used to go to the launderette I went for a wander in town. I don't actually like laundry at all and would pay for a service if I could afford to.
Once the utility/storage room is set up I'll buy a proper machine but for now I think the small one will do. It is definitely a faff DIA not having one at home.

So add the cookie and tea to the cost each time!
A friend of a relative set up a business where they pick up a black bag filled with laundry and take it away returning it washed and ironed! I would pay for that  :D

  • Ha dunno what it is about where I live but all the launderettes do that, pick up up your washing and bring it back. I just can't bear the thought of paying £20 odd to get my uniform and scraggy old pants washed 😂

  • Definitely get the mini washing machine, sounds like it'll pay for itself soon enough and be a quality of life game changer. Don't forget to go through a cashback site if you can! Hopefully there'll be one in the post-Christmas sales too..

Crumbs, they obviously know they are hard on their staff. I bet the uniform is artificial fibres, they tend to hold the smell of sweat more. Well done on being ahead of things with the laundry tax thing.

  • Very artificial fibres Cherry, more than one type. The trousers are very plasticky and have to be worn with leggings underneath.
Methinks it will be a big river purchase PiP, they seem to be most cost effective.
There are four launderettes that I know of DIA ( a lot for a small city) not including the Timpsons or the Johnsons. Three of them do collection and drop off. Never been in the other one so don't know if they do.

    This evenings shenanigans:
    Cleaned out daily bag
Packed daily bag for tomorrow's plans (mostly)
Sorted laundry into weekly and monthly baskets
    Washing up
    Drank rehydration salts

A most excellent Sunday was had. Was motivated enough to get out for a walk at the headland which I thoroughly enjoyed although perhaps overdid the walking as I became a bit spacey. Tried a mystery shop but lost patience a bit (due to spaciness) and may have not been as thorough as I should. Oh well it meant I could take advantage of the markies voucher I was gifted and get a few bits and bobs, mostly tins which were on a par with Tesco price wise. Using the voucher was a big deal as normally I save them for ages to try and use for something 'special'.
Visited the charity furniture shop where I eyed up four things but left without buying. I don't get paid til Wednesday and I couldn't be sure I wasn't impulse buying.
Went to see the boys and enjoyed myself playing thanks to batteries being a bit more charged. Well except for the bit where they sat on my head, could have done without that.

A great day. a nice balance of things, even accounting for your head being sat on!
