When I win the pools I am definitely getting a wee place by the sea1 -
Don’t need a pool win to get a place by the sea in Scotland PiP.Today is my day with LB. I’m knackered and sluggish. But we’re having fun nonetheless.
New job set to go ahead next week even though I have received a contract for 40 hours which I doubt I can work. I’m feeling a bit sour about it all and a bit wary. Which is a shame because I want to be excited about starting a new job and progressing financially. There is nothing obvious making me question them, no huge red flags. Maybe it’s just all disconnected and the centralised recruitment makes it a bit impersonal? The site could be really nice.
If somebody had just said oh sorry about the confusion this is what it should have been can you manage that, I’d be happy to start.Ah well, we shall see what happens next week. It isn’t the only fish in the sea.
Should probably get the wee man up from his nap but I’m enjoying the peace 🤷4 -
The start to this job would be making me twitchy. It’s not what was in the advert and not what you agreed to. I wouldn’t sign the contract tbh, I would ask them to change it to the hours you agreed or pull out …
Theres nothing obvious, no glaring red flags but your instinct is not happy …
I think you should walk away from this, if you can?KKAs at 15.07.25:

I think @KajiKita is right - don't sign up to something you aren't happy with and isn't something you agreed. Do draw their attention to this and ask for either what you initially thought you were getting or, possibly, a compromise if you can think of one you'll be happy with. 40 hours is a big commitment. You could also phrase it in terms like 'I was really pleased to be offered X hours and wanted to get started but I've been given a different contract. I wondered how I go about getting it amended so I can get started?'
Someone might be able to word that better, but the gist would be that you are keen on the job but there's been a mistake. If you wanted to try longer hours you could ask if they allow staff to do over their contracted hours - but if that means you are penalised for not doing whatever they ask, then don't take the job. You don't need that stress.
The snowy beach sounds like something out of a novel...

My thoughts are definitely in a muddle over this job. I can’t be sure though that I’m not in a demand avoidant phase and finding things that aren’t there to justify not doing something.
Or I’ve thought all the white thoughts and am now thinking all the black thoughts.
If nobody replies to my latest email then I will find out what is happening on Tuesday. Rest assured no contracts will be signed. In the meantime, I will try and commit what I’m thinking to paper in all their various forms and try to pin down all the things I could do.3 -

Once you’ve done that, hopefully tomorrow, fold it up, tuck it in an envelope, and forget about for the weekend 😉

The cat knows what side her bread is buttered on KK. Although her winter fur is so long it took her a while to notice anything and she suffered the indignity as long as a lap was on offer.1
