  • This cold has lasted a week and a half now. I am resigned to the fact that I am now amphibious (albeit snot rather than water) and look forward to developing gills to breathe with.
Ended up in a flap yesterday thanks to baby day being turned completely upside down. However did take him to toddler group where he had a ball so proud of myself for going outside the comfort zone. Not so proud of LB who knocked down several children and generally acted like a marauding horde. Although he is so cute and smiles so much he gets away with it.
Plan for today is to work on my finances hopefully. My brain seems to be taking a wander whenever I try to pin it down.

I think toddler groups are great - not because of the enforced socialising for me, but because the children get a lot of new toys/social interactions and an introduction to some of the patterns of behaviour that will enable them to slot into school so it's not all new to them when that comes round. Your LB is obviously a bundle of energy and the dashing round was probably excitement, so you might be able to take the edge off that with a walk first, or sit yourself towards the edge of the group near some open space if he's wanting to charge round on toy cars. Depends how it's set up. There's something about an open space that seems to make some toddlers want to charge up and down it!

It's worth helping him not to be a 'marauding horde', because it would be sad if the other children were scared of him, but at this age he can't think that through. Stopping him and getting him to say sorry if he's knocked someone down, would also slow him down a bit. It's all new though so once he's found his feet he might work out where he can charge round and where he has to consider others.

Here's me, knows nothing about toddlers, giving advice! Sorry. I've seen a lot of them though and have to put some sort of crowd control in place with the group we have on a Sunday morning, so I'm on a learning curve.

Sorry the cold is hanging around. You must be sick of it.

Ha LB is only just 14 months he is not quite at behavioural modification stage just yet.
Joking aside, I was thinking about my reaction. Aside from being in a flap prior, I realised I haven’t really seen the boys around other kids very much. And I don’t really know what appropriate behaviour is so it was more confusion than anything else.
He really enjoyed himself and the other ppl said he looked like he was having a ball.
Other shenanigans are afoot money wise but I haven’t really processed through them yet. So I’m off to have fish and chips beside the sea.

Fish and chips beside the sea... nice! :D

The toddler group things will fall into place but if you let him know things like 'Mind out, this little girl can't run like you so you have to slow down around her', he will get the explanation eventually.

I've offered to help at a local toddler group next week as they needed staff and I have a DBS for children in that organisation. I'm not sure what I've let myself in for!
