Hello everyone. I'm just back from my favourite Community Fridge where, for a £1 voluntary donation, I collected so much food. So much. I won't list it all, but based on everything which has now been shoehorned into my fridge and freezers, my menu plan for the coming week will be:
Thursday
Breakfast - Pret porridge pot with blueberries
Lunch : Pret hoisin duck wrap, small bottle of M&S gazpacho
Dinner : Roasted portobello mushrooms stuffed with minced beef, garlic and spinach
Friday
Breakfast - Pret bircher muesli pot with grated apple
Lunch : Pret roast chicken sandwich, small bottle of M&S gazpacho
Dinner : King oyster mushroom and veg stir fry with black bean sauce
Saturday
Breakfast - Scrambled egg on wholemeal toast
Lunch : Carrot and lentil soup
Dinner : Italian meatballs and pasta with side salad
Sunday
Breakfast - Bacon, egg, hash brown and tomato
Lunch : Carrot and lentil soup, sourdough croutons
Dinner : Roasted cauliflower cheese
Monday
Breakfast - Toast or cereal
Lunch : King oyster mushroom slices in garlic and parsley butter
Dinner : Chicken chow mein
Tuesday
Breakfast - Toast or cereal
Lunch : Curried parsnip soup, sourdough croutons
Dinner : Carrot and sweet potato spicy fritters with salad
Wednesday
Breakfast - Porridge
Lunch : Roast beef and onion sandwich
Dinner : Black bean dhal, naan bread and vegetable samosa
I also have strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, easy peelers, grapes, fresh peaches, apples and pears for desserts/snacks, along with a large carton of Greek yogurt and 4 pints filtered semi skimmed milk. In addition I picked up very large and healthy potted herbs (curly leaf parsley and rosemary) which I have planted out in the herb garden.
Not bad for £1

What an amazing haul CJ. I went to the Bread and Butter thing this week, and nowhere near as good as what you've got. And more expensive too!
I'm in the midst of my meal plan as we speak 🤔GC 2025 so far £1267.70/£1530 Nov13th - Dec12th = £48.87/180 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Two person vegan household, with occasional visitors)Join me on the meal plan thread : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6356309/could-we-start-a-meal-plan-thread-again-so-its-not-lost-in-the-gc/p1Forever learning the art of frugality1 -

Dinner: Mushroom omelette and salad, raspberry Eton Mess
Tuesday
Breakfast: Cereal or toast

Dinner: Leeks wrapped in ham and baked in cheese sauce, raspberry Eton Mess
That brings me back to Wednesday when I will be back at the Community Fridge, though I may also pop in to the one they hold at the weekend just to have a look and see what's on offer.
This week I also picked up a lovely big slab of fruit cake (the Christmas cake type), a slice of which will be nice with morning coffee. Also 4 pints of filtered whole milk and some protein enhanced flapjacks.
They also had tonnes of salad leaves, little gem lettuces and cucumbers which we were forced to take (!). I might try making braised lettuce or lettuce soup for the freezer but please does anyone have some good suggestions for using up four huge cucumbers? I did find a recipe online for cucumber curry and I have all the ingredients for it but am not too sure. I already have some bread and butter pickles in the fridge which I made the other week so I don't need to make any more of those. Does anyone have any other ideas please?1 -
I know you said no more pickles, but would the one with red pepper flakes, rice vinegar, sesame seeds et al, work? I can't think of the name !C_J said:

I think I forgot to come back with the meal plan last week. Here is this week's

The next seven days' meal plan using all the items I collected from the Community Fridge this week will be:
Breakfasts : croissants; porridge; toast; scrambled eggs; cornflakes. I also have blueberries to add to the porridge, and there's also a litre of fresh apple juice.
Lunches: Chunky mixed vegetable soup with added chopped chicken; prawn gyozas with sweet chilli dipping sauce; avocado on toast; chicken pesto and salad wrap; prawn sandwich; jacket potato. There are ingredients for carrot and coriander soup if needed too.
Dinners: Garlicky creamy mushrooms on toast; fresh ravioli with arrabiata sauce; chicken and veg stir fry with hoisin sauce and sesame oil noodles; sausages with broccoli and cauliflower cheese; meatballs with spaghetti and a fresh tomato sauce.
For snacks and desserts there are yogurts, apples, bananas, easy peelers, blueberries, strawberries, a big tub of fancy mixed olives and two tubs of guacamole. I also picked up bread and 4 litres of semi skimmed filtered milk so the only shopping I will most likely need this week is another sack of worker dog mix for the hungry hound

I didn't manage to have the last two meals and I'm on my own for most of the week.Thai curry and rice
Cottage pie
So, my meal plan is going to be quite similar to the week just gone.
