Don't be upset if you and your solicitor get delayed. It took about 3 months for my management company to get the pack out to my solicitor. Fingers crossed, yours are more proactive!
I haven't worried too much about insurances yet and I'm like 2.5 years in! Perhaps I should sort it...2 -
I never bothered with life insurance - I don't have any dependents, so figured the bank could just have my place if anything happened to me while I had the mortgage. I don't have any contents insurance either 😳 have always thought someone would be doing me a favour if they got rid of all my tatty old stuff for me!
(I do have a couple of bits of jewellery and some documents in a safe, I'm not completely reckless 👍!)Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
I only mentionned insurance cover as a friend in her 50s recently had a stroke. Recovering well but worried about mortgage and considering equity release which otherwise she could have used to enhance her retirement. Life throws up curve balls all the time.2

Thanks all for the comments- I think its an interesting discussion. Although I don't have dependents I would hate to not leave anything for my nieces and nephews other than a spiraling collection of ducks!! (not real!)
Its worth me getting quotes and seeing what i think after the quotes come in. If i feel its reasonable then i will go for it but if its just pricey extra money going out then will probs leave it!
I await information form my solicitor on how to pay the £300 they want for searches now- Emailed last week and he hasn't sent the bank details so I'm not chasing him!!
Fingers are still crossed for mortgage final stuff coming through this week- Anyone with Barclays>? Believe there is an online portal you get access to?

I think I have a sour opinion because when my dad went into a coma, my parents' life insurance didn't cover despite covering ill health, death and accidents.
Your solicitor's client account information should be in the pack you were sent when you engaged them. Solicitors will generally try to avoid sending their bank details via email for fear of fraud.2 -

No updates today but just saving all the pennies I can so i have all the funds available as soon as requested in one place.
Im absolutely dying to get packing and sorting but am being restrained as it could be ages yet and could still lose out! Got some stuff ready for a car boot sale and will sort out the kitchen this weekend so i only keep what I use and try and grab some more pennies by selling.
Been let down 3 ties on FB Marketplace with a desk i dont need or use so offered it in my residents chat for where i live at the moment and will see if it goes there instead!
Otherwise the sun is shining, im in a great mood and have an evening off!

Weird, I imagine they will send you a letter then. When I review solicitor records, they are so careful with Bank details, it puts me to shame!
Sorry to hear you're having a bad time with buyers, it's a big issue with marketplace!2 -
Just took a call from the Estate Agent confirming contracts of sale have gone to my solicitor yesterday which was nice and speedy.
Then my solicitor called me!!! Shock of all shocks! To say he had everything he needed, was making a few due diligence checks, had received contract and was reviewing it and would be in touch later in the week for payment for the initial £300!
All sounds good (don't worry i am keeping it real that this doesn't mean a quick turnaround but I'm happy with the correspondence and communication!)
In other news- asked to be bridesmaid for one best friend and then my other bestie has just told me she is due Baby 2 in December!!
What a great Day
xx

And so a chase up today reveals that my broker can see that there ar eno extra documents requested and my mortgage application is under review with Barclays- He will chase tomorrow for me.
I do think he has been worth his weight in gold- He got all the paperwork etc done in advance of me applying so hasnt had to ask me for anything extra- Obvs knows his stuff and long may this continue!
I want to start making sure that my extra income- selling things or rebates etc goes into savings and doesnt just get added to the general spends budget. Gonna use my monzo for pots i think as soon as all mortgage stuff is sorted and up and running.
Hope you are all having a great day!
