Diesel gate

Hi,
Following on from the PPI issue some years ago, it is my understanding that if you asked the bank if they owed you any PPI rebate, they were legally obliged to say yes (if they were) and pay accordingly. So although people could use various 3rd party companies, this could be easily done by ourselves!
Now to the diesel-gate scandal and wondering the same thing, ie if I rang up the finance house or dealer etc, are they also legally obliged to say yes, or do I have to use a 3rd party law firm who's taking these potential claims?
Just curious.
thanks for any feedback!

The thing is, with PPI there was a tangible financial element that can be quantified. My question to you would be, what provable financial losses have you suffered? In fact, it might even be argued that since vehicle tax is based upon emissions, you've actually been paying less tax than you should have been - maybe, when the investigation is concluded, you'd be getting a bill from HMRC/DVLA for unpaid tax

How much do you feel you are owed?
As I see it, it'd be the reduction on value of the car (which corrected fairly quickly) minus the avoided VED.
There might be something about having your cars performance reduced to match the quoted emissions but I've no idea how you could quantify it.0 -

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Looking forward to apologies from everyone who gave bad advice here. Looks like it was well worth signing up to one of these lawsuits, and those with the foresight to do so are in for a nice payout.
Imagine how you would feel if you had taken that advice and missed out. I wonder if you can still join.1 -

a) it ever comes to fruition and ambulance chasers don't get greedy and push for more
b) other manufacturers share the same risk attitude - especially as this has not set a legal precedent
Would love to know the source of the £190m and how many other manufacturers have chipped in to avoid it going to court0 -

I'm sure a lot of people will try. But is there any evidence that any other car manufacturer deliberately fiddled their emissions test results?
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

The loss they suffered is in the value of the vehicle and the damage to their health. There is also the psychological harm caused by knowing that their vehicle was contributing more than they thought to climate change and damaging other people's health.
Some people also had to have their cars modified when the scandal came to light. As well as the time wasted, VW have not been very clear about the effects of the fix and that would probably have come out in court. I suspect they were significant.
Just because you value it at £0 is meaningless, it's what a court would value it at. VW seems to think it would be at least £190 million.0
