I'm not sure that EDF has got such a good consumer rating
I would not normally switch unless there was a significant advantage in doing so. How in your informed view does EDF stack up against Octopus?
Very true I wouldn't touch EDF with a bargepole.
They are appalling imo.0 -

bristolleedsfan said:EDF 12 month fix - No exit fees if change to another EDF fixed tariff, otherwise £50 per fuel ( Source Uswitch and post on another related thread)
£347 a year less than the current price cap and £109 - 6.5 percent - less than the figure that comes into effect on April 1.
The fixed rate tariff works out at £1,581 a year based on typical use and is the cheapest deal on the market since October 2021.
It is being offered by EDF through the price comparison and switching website Uswitch.com. Existing EDF customers can also access the same fixed rate deal directly with the company.

Just in! Don’t miss this price-cap beating fixed tariff from EDF. It’s the cheapest fix we’ve offered since 2021, and one of the best deals of its kind on the market.

Bar a couple of May 2024 versions very marginally cheaper Octopus 12M Fixed July 2024 v1 is cheapest Octopus gas fix for considerable amount of time, if Octopus customer is on cheaper electricity 12 month fix can ask Octopus just change gas to this cheaper version.1

Hi,
I'm confused by the tariffs and can't work out if I'm better staying on the 'Standard Variable' rate or moving to a fixed rate deal for a year.
I'm currently with EDF paying £188.31 per month ( just come down ), they are offering two tariffs.
£169.08Your prices rise and fall in line with Ofgem's price capDiscounted standing charge applied – worth £25/year per fuel
or£173.19
Lock your unit rates and standing charge for 1 year
Any one any suggestions on this, or a better provider to move to.
Thanks0 -

Nobody can tell you what will be cheaper.
If you think the price cap will go up and be higher than the fix - then take the fix. If you want security about what each unit will cost for a year - take the fix.
If you don't think the price cap will go up that much - take the variable. If you are happy with a bit of risk about future prices or want to wait for fixes later - take the variable.0 -

Outfox The Market might be slightly cheaper.0 -
These things depend on usage and region but there's a new Octopus 12M that seems to be 0.5p kWh cheaper for elec than the previous June v4 and so works out as similar to the EDF fix - but the EDF mentions early exit fees. There's the EDF variable tracker that has lower standing charges but that also seems to have early exit fees.0

Would the scope of this forum cover "what rates" are being offered for FIT/SEG generation and export units? I get the impression that comparisons are anything but simple.Telegraph Sam
