What rates are you being offered by your provider at the moment?

  • Octopus tracker = currently 5pkwh for gas and 17pkwh for electricity .I can leave the gas on 24/7 for about £8pd and reduce   electricity consumption
Taken from O/P    "we want to know what fixed energy deals you're being offered by your current provider"

Octopus tracker has been more expensive for at least last two days than you state.

  • Looks like EDF have stopped their super-cheap E7 night rate for the eastern region. Now their lastest 3 year fixes are about 16p night, 32p day whereas the one me and my parents took are about 8p night and 42p day.
  • Surely if you can get a fixed, even if it's 1% higher than the current Oct 2023 Price Cap, like the BG Fixed, it's worth considering as you use most of your usage (at least for gas) in the winter months? The cap in Jan 2024 is 5% more until the April 2024 where they are strongly predicted to fall back to current levels, but the bulk of gas use in the year will be used at the current-ish rate? Of course July 2024 onwards is impossible to predict but I will hazard a guess that prices will most likely remain at current levels.

Or what if these were your prices over the last 30 days?

Risky if there is a spike in price, but wow! 👍

Indeed anyone with any risk adversity need not apply.
  • Current Brit Gas fixed rate price promise:

    "Price Promise tariff

Join the tens of thousands that have chosen our Price Promise tariff to get lower bills from today and beat the April cap. With our Price Promise tariff, you get the peace of mind of a fixed rate and - if the April price cap drops and is cheaper than this tariff, we'll lower your prices to beat it."

Presumably I can't lose out if I fix it and the April price cap drops below the fixed rate tariff, or am I missing something?

If (more likely, when) the price cap drops again at the end of the summer, you'll still be on the higher April price cap, or have an exit fee to pay.

You should do the sums based on your usage and the next year predictions to see if its any better. Fixing will give you certainty, however.

Can change to another B.G fixed tariff without exit fees.

Yep, but anyone who thinks that BG is just going to leave that door open is a very optimistic person :)
