  • I am with EDF and am not being offered the long v3 fixed rate (to May 3024) but only v2 which is a 42% increase on the welcome variable rate I am currently on.  Elec will be 41.29p a unit and gas 12.078 compared to 28.46 and 7.48.  Not worth doing I think?

I suspect on the back of the press release from Ofgem the prices are being raised or will be raised by June 1st fix wise
  • I’ve been offered this fix by British Gas. I can’t work out if it would be better to fix or stay with the price cap. I’m in the North West.

    Thoroughly confused.

In early July I will be posted abroad for 3 years, but will be coming back to my house every 10 - 12 weeks for a week at a time, and in the interim it will be unoccupied.

Should I consider fixing, given that my usage will a lot less than it has been and if so can anyone suggest any suppliers please?

but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ..... wow what a Ride!

Two deals offered to me by ScottishPower.  First is a 'fix' until August 2023, second to August 2024.   These are 64% and 66% more expensive than the current price cap  [for my usage] so not worth considering ....   BUT  ...  neither are truly 'fixed' !?!?!
Despite describing them as fixed, both are called 'variable' and state that there are elements that will change in price every quarter from Oct.22.
Don't know how Keith Anderson [CEO] can lobby the Government to help out when he's sanctioning such rip-off rates.

Lobbying for themselves to try and minimise bad debts and how much they would be obligated to pay out to customers struggling to pay.

SP rip off fixed rates taking advantage of those who have no understanding of energy tariff rates and choose fixed out of fear due to constant headlines about prices increasing.

Hi all these are what we have been offered. First two is our welcome to British Gas tariff after our supplier went bust.

What are thoughts on the second? My wife has had to quit work recently as we had twins in 2020 and were facing £2000 a month childcare costs. We also have a 5yr old. With the cost of living increase it ended up costing my wife to work, which shows how messed up this country is.

It’s worrying to us with us. Ow only having my income, so we want to make the right choice if we fix with them.

What happens if the gov do step in and people have fixed?

    thanks any help appreciated.

Just been having issues getting into the EDF site for myself and my parents and telling me it can show the options. Hope they aren't pulling the tariff when the letter for our expiry at the end of the month offers it.

OK there are a lot of people on this thread asking "should I take this fix?" and I don't have enough evening to give everyone a personalised reply. Apologies about that.
However, ignoring standing charges for now, here's a rough guide from me (and my circumstances might not be yours).
    Electricity fixed rate deals:
    • Under 30p/kWh - take it immediately before they realise what they've done.
    • 30-35p/kWh - take it.
    • 35-40p/kWh - probably worth taking.
    • Over 40p/kWh - probably not worth taking.
    Gas fixed rate deals:
    • Under 9p/kWh - take it immediately before they realise what they've done.
    • 9-10p/kWh - take it.
    • 10-11p/kWh - probably worth taking.
    • Over 11p/kWh - probably not worth taking.
If you're with Octopus, consider Tracker (for gas and/or electricity) or Agile (for electricity) but those aren't tariffs for the faint-of-heart, you need to know what you're doing.
Thanks. Do you not need to take the standing charge into account as they seem to be the biggest jump?
