  • I'm thinking of getting one, don't suppose anyone could answer some queries I have?

What is the cost per loaf, compared to the shops? Can it do smaller amounts?

How long does the bread last? I'm not really a massive eater.

If its anything like mine the loaf are small and a slight hole at bottom where the mixer sits, having said that you cant beat fresh baked bread. No idea of costs tbh we dont sue it everyday buth boy when you do you dont regret it. Its nice having to add your only contents like, nuts, seeds ect that type of bread is expensive in shops

Bread don't last long as its small for a family probably a day, for someone alone a few days perhaps at most
  • I've got a breville at the moment which is pretty good and I've used it quite a bit but devotees say the panasonic is the one to go for, go through pigsback at the moment and there's also 2 points per pound so an extra 78P off.

  • Yes thank you. One similar to this came up last year at Sainsbury's and I delayed and missed it- I knew my day would come again:beer:

The cost depends on what you want to put in it, and how big you want it to be. You can do smaller (400g flour) to larger (600g flour) loaves. I often add 200g of dried fruit and a few spoonfuls of mixed spaces (excellent for breakfast toast), or you can add olives, or nuts, or anything you fancy. How much a loaf costs totally depends on the recipe. I've even baked ones using a tin of tomatoes instead of water and added anchovy paste. Lovely.

You can do smaller loaves (400g). We've never left them alone long enough to see how long it is before they go off. Remember one of the ways shop bought bread is preserved is by pumping it full of fat. If you cut down the amount of fat in homemade bread, it will not keep so long. You can also cut it in half and freeze it. The other big advantage is that you can experiment with reducing fat and salt, if this is important for your diet.
  • We had the SD254 for years and upgraded to the SD255 when the old one (eventually) died after heavy regular use.

    Strongly recommend.:T

Thank you sooooooooo much for this.
Been after a breadmaker for ages but couldn't justify the price of a Panasonic.
The OSers certainly rate this make!
It will be a pressie for me and hubby from my mum (he will be pleased! lol).

Hi, We have a hinari bread machine. It only makes 1 size of loaf. My husband costed it out a few months ago, and he reckoned in cost about 30p to make a plain loaf of bread (30p is for ingredients and electricity). You could bring the cost down still, by using cheaper flour (we use organic flour, which is more expensive). The loaves of fresh bread in the supermarket here cost about £1.10 and 85p - so it is quite a saving. Plus, you can make it when you need it, so not so much waste.

I have been buying Hovis Seed Sensations which costs £1.56 so hoping that my purchase will soon pay for itself.
