We had a bit of a problem with the traffic getting from just off the island up to the M2 but it was plain sailing after that - DD2 is far enough away from the route for there not to be a problem fortunately. We'd forgotten the coast bound M2 junction was closed this weekend for roadworks which was the cause of the problem with extra traffic as the diversion takes cars miles out of their way and have to travel towards London to the next turning and then come back around the back roads to the next junction!
We came home via the M20 and that was a really easy journey with no hold ups anywhere. The traffic going towards the M2 junction was just as bad when we came home as it was when we went this morning.
The Mexican chicken sounds nice, might have to pinch that one! The lasagne at DD2s for lunch was lovely - it was from a student cookbook - quite honestly I can't see many students wanting to chop up butternut squash into 1/4" cubes to make this. I find lasagne quite a faff to make but will definitely be making this at some time. DH enjoyed it too which is a bonus!

It's a lovely afternoon here too @Vegastare. I'm actually sitting in the garden at the moment as the conservatory was too hot! Sounds like you've been to Aldi too this week as tenderstem broccoli is on Super 6!👍
All I did for the Mexican chicken @joedenise was put the chicken breasts (halved as they were large) in a dish and poured on about 4 tbsps of salsa and topped with a HEA or so of grated Cheddar. Being me I added some sliced mushrooms and peppers. It was tasty. 😋1 -

Morning all, another very grey day. Haven't checked the forecast but it certainly looks like it might rain!
@maman is right I do like mussels but I've tried the ready cooked ones a couple of times and not as keen on them as the ones DH cooks when we're in France. The ready cooked ones always seem to be a bit chewy and certainly don't fancy them in a tomato and herb sauce - we always have them cooked in white wine (moules marniere). Never seem to be able to find decent mussels in our supermarkets so have given up buying them in this country and just enjoy them when we're on holiday.
Today's plan:
B - Welsh rarebit - HEB; HEA2; P; F
L - Leek and potato soup - S; F
D - vegetable biryani - S; F
HEA1 - milk
HEA2 - cheese
Syns - none planned
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning everyone,
We had a nice meal out yesterday - 6 of us as DDs bf went clothes shopping for his forthcoming lads holiday and DS1s financee went to her Mums as she shares a birthday with DD. I had roast chicken dinner which was lovely then a peppermint tea. Quite pricey (£20 for a roast) but lovely food. Came home and had coffee at ours whilst DD, DS2 and his GF snoozed in a food coma. Spent some time with DS1 discussing his next career move - same company but a different role - all good.
I took DS2 back to Canterbury last night - an hour each way usually, but given the road closures that @joedenise mentioned, it took me 1hr 45 to get back, so I didn't get home until 9.45pm. Was craving a bath and bed, but had a message from DD who had gone back to Brighton to say her and BF have split - what timing, her 21st birthday weekend. He hadn't bought her anything and took her to a restaurant where he used vouchers he received for Christmas. I mean, I'm all for using a voucher, but probably not when it's your GFs 21st and you've been together 3 years! They want different things, and he wants to travel - she's so sad. I spent some time on the phone with her (DH at the pub!) and will keep in touch this week. She doesn't have the greatest mental health and I do worry with her not being at home. Sorry for the off-topic splurge but I didn't sleep well as you can imagine.
Food today:
B - 1 x wm toast, poached egg, 2 satsumas - 0.5 HEB, P, S
L - tuna, salad leaves, pickles, melon, blueberries - P, S, 0.5 for LTL mayo
D - chicken pesto pasta with parmesan - 3.5 syns for pesto, HEA, 3 syns for single cream
HEA - milk
1/2 HEB - hi fi bar
Syns - 7
Have a good day all.

That journey back from Canterbury sounds horrendous - almost double the usual time. Think the road works are every weekend until the end of the year! It's going to be a right pain to get anywhere.
That's really sad for your DD - what awful timing. Your 21st is supposed to be a really happy time. Hopefully it won't take her too long to get over it and with you keeping in touch with her it will help.
Looks like DS1 is doing well in his company if he's moving within it. Is it a promotion or a sideways move for more experience?
Where on earth did you go for a roast to cost £20? That's outrageous. I definitely wouldn't want to go there - I like a nice meal out but at a reasonable price.
Don't worry about going off topic @Coxy11 - life happens and we have to deal with it however we can and if writing about it here helps then go for it.
