Is there a limit to the amount you can have in the 1.5% saver?

I applied for an account on Sunday, it's now Wednesday at 14.00 hours. After an email kicking the can down the road, now when I try to use the app I get a message: headed 'Not the best first impression' which goes on to waffle: 'We're sorry but you can't open an account right now. We're working on the problem and will get it fixed as soon as possible. Please try again later'.

Not the best first impression? English understatement from an American bank.

They appear to have spent big money on a TV campaign and now the referral incentive, before they could handle the applications they already had. Understandable when a small, local building society misjudges demand, but for an outfit as big  as JPM it's surprising.

Shows how hungry savers were for better rate.

  • They should be struck off from the top list. They announced the £20 refer a friend at the end of last week and have totally misjudged the demand. I applied on Sunday, got told it would take 24 hours to get checked, then updated to say 48 hours and now says cannot open an account. If you look at their status page it just says System Outage, no it isn't you just cant resource the demand you created.
If people cant open an account then it shouldn't be on the best buy list surely?

    Welcome to the forum.

However, a best buy is a best buy however poor the service.

There's the problem: too many people changing lightbulbs.

So it is still a best buy if you cant buy it? So I could announce I have an account at 2.0% and I would be best buy even if you aren't able to take up the offer?

    Thanks for the welcome!

Does seem strange to start throwing "more" money at people to entice them in when they are already market leading?!?

    What next...world domination 😉
