My Sister Really Annoys Me

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just sat down to have a cuppa and I mentioned this thread to my hubby. His instant reaction was to say "if they hate the place so much, why do they keep going there?" It's good question, isn't it?

Your sister comes, her hubby comes, they bring along a friend or two of their own on occasion. Maybe the question Annie needs to think about is .. why?

It simply doesn't hold water if one accepts that they are correct and fully justified in believing the 'pig-sty' scenario (no offence whatever intended to you, Annie - just a convenient word for me to try to express a concept) It's for sure that if I found someone's home that unpleasant, I would be keeping my visits to the minimum, not seeking ever more opportunities to immerse myself in something that dismayed or repelled me. Unless, of course, I was secretly glad of the opportunity to make myself feel good by knocking someone else who I believed loved me too much to ever hit back!

  • Your sister sounds both rather insecure and frightfully common - and I would tell her so!
It is very impolite and 'not done' to brag about how much things cost and I think it was Oscar Wilde who said that (quote) "She is the sort of person who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing".
"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."
  • Totally agree with everything you have said Paddy's Mum, I often wonder why they keep coming back if it's so bad.

I honestly think she's doing it to make out that she's so much better than everyone because it's the only thing that she has to make herself feel good. Her life is pretty boring and I couldn't live with all the debt she has and I think she finds it hard too but won't admit it. They think everybody should live their life the way they do and if you don't then they are right and you are wrong, but deep down I think they are both really miserable with their life and are probably jealous of us because we have want they don't and that's a happy, loving family home.

I'll just keep letting it go over my head as I really don't want to do battle with her but sometimes it just gets a bit over the top and I just want to scream but life is too short and she's really all I have so i'll just have to grow thicker skin.

It reminds me of those Harry Enfield sketches with the Brummie couple who were 'considerably richer than yo' :rotfl:
