I believe you are West Country based, ladyholly and I'm not sure how far you will be looking to travel but Hope Rescue and Many Tears in South Wales are worthy rescues to consider xx2

I hope you find another dog soon. You have so much to give. I agree that some of the rescues seem to be overly restrictive on who they allow to adopt."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Flying_By said:I believe you are West Country based, ladyholly and I'm not sure how far you will be looking to travel but Hope Rescue and Many Tears in South Wales are worthy rescues to consider xxThank you. Yes we have looked at them plus all our local ones and gone as far up country as the midlands and as far east as Berkshire. Put in an application to North Devon this morning. We are quite prepared to travel but 2 -3 hours each way is more than enough for Mr L and I am not allowed to drive unfortunately due to a vision problem.I am sure something will turn up but we are being quite particular as we want a dog between 6 and 8 due to our ages, it must be dog and child tolerant/ friendly that we can work on due to Mr L wanting to take it to his little festivals and preferably house trained. This means our choices are much more limited. We have missed out on two so far as others applied first but we are now checking every day to see if there are new dogs available. If anyone has other suggestions of rescues plaease let me know as there are many smaller ones that I havent found. We live not too far from Bristol to give an idea of distances. Mr H came from Staffordshire, Miis W from Battersea and our Jack Russell that died several years ago from Poole so we dont limit our area too much. Our first Collie and the little one were local.

Wishing you well. It seems the rescue centres can be very narrow minded when considering matches.2

I have done a little bit of listing today but have spent a lot of time filling in forms for dogs. I did manage to defrost the freezer. It wasnt too bad but I wanted it done before the Christmas food shopping started. We managed to go for a short walk beween the rain showers today (we are continuing the routine at lunchtime as far as reasonable). We have always walked the dogs in whatever weather but at present we are playing chicken with the rain.I have cashed out another £5 on surveys, am about 2/3 of the way to a payout on two other sites and halfway on the £50 site that takes about 2 years to reach pay out. Nothing else money today except I havent spent anything.Nothing I want to watch on TV so I am going to try for more surveys.Have a good evening.3

I hope you find 'the right one' very soon and I completely understand why you need to be particular. We have two elderly boys, a Welsh Sheepdog (from Greenacres Rescue in South Pembrokeshire) and a Collie cross, who we 'rescued' as he was being given away on Gmtree. Thank goodness they are both slowing down as much as we are! Given that we are in our mid-sixties I am very mindful of the same considerations you have if we decide to get another dog. I often look at Protecting Pre-loved Border Collies website, I believe they are based near Carmarthen.3

We are really struggling. Mr L is varying between anger, hope and despair. We have had several knock backs over a new dog. Rescues are not being helpful, they keep complaining they are stacked out but then they ignore people. He is now saying we wont get another dog as the form filling and waiting with no response is too stressful but I know this will be the worst possible thing. It has brought it home to me how fragile his mental health remains and without a dog I don't know what is going to happen. We are still going out for a walk at lunchtime but I don't know how long that will go on if he gets worse.
He needs a dog to give him a semblance of normal life. He has spent most of today in bed and hasn't even got up for the news on TV. He has no patience and expects the right dog to be there instantly and everyone to run around after him. He cannot see that sometimes you have to wait for things to be right.
Sorry for the doom and gloom but he is very hard to live with sometimes and I don't really have real life people to talk to.
Money is ok as I haven't been anywhere to spend it. I cant leave him on his own as he is. I can only hope something comes up soon.5 -
I know exactly how you feel, I don’t really have anyone to vent about Mr SA who’d take it seriously so my diary is a release for me.When we were first looking for a dog the rescue centres made it so hard we gave up. We ended up buying our dog from an advert in the local paper. £125 well spent in my opinion. I know the rescue centres have to be careful but they shouldn’t be as picky as they are.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

Unfortunately because rescues spend their time with tick box forms they are not seeing that many of those rejected would be great dog owners if they would only talk to them. e.g. not every dog needs a 6ft fence round the garden. Consequently dogs are being euthanized because there is a lack of rescue space and people are getting puppies from back street breeders thereby encouraging the trade.2

I'm sorry that is so difficult for you both. I hope you find a suitable dog soon.
