Huge congratulations! Glad you enjoyed the show as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

(PS Hope you aren't handing over all the funds for another car to sit in the garage, you did all the work regarding the house, you did all the visiting over the last 5 years, he was your relative and you want to have plenty funds available for if you see a bungalow you want to buy so you get more house available for you to use 😃 )

Evening AllMany thanks for everyones kind ccomments. It has been a spendy day. I have sent flowers to bils neighbour and they arrived today, also some to my buyer which will arrive on Monday. The final set of house keys sent special delevery which should also arrive Monday. Card to thank the estate agent who has been very helpful finding people to do stuff like tidy the garden, clean the house ready to sell etc. Then went shopping and bought a couple of towels ( our existing bathrom ones are looking very sad), a saucepan to replace one that I use a lot but has the non stick coating damaged and a couple of cushions as the one I use are as flat as pancakes. I didnt even look at how much I was spending and am still not sure. Nothing to be proud of but I just needed to be slightly extravagant for once. That certainly will not continue.Yesterday was a very strange day as we both felt really tense and unsettled even after we knew the completion was done. Mr LH didnt go to bed until 6am this morning and I had an awful night. I kept waking up and finally woke at 4 am and didnt go back to sleep. I dont know if was the heat, the champagne (I only had one glass, honest) or generally unable to settle. Our friend who lost her dog recently called for coffee. She is feeling very lost and she knows we know how she feels.Mr LH is away to a festival this week so I have written a shopping list for his food which I would normally do on Monday except the cooked meat and milk but as we are car viewing I will have to do it either tomorrow or Tuesday depending how I feel.Kitchen cleaned and thats it for today.Have a good evening.4

No shame in replacing things you need to. I think you deserve a little splurge.Such good news the sale has finally completed 🥳I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Lol I don't think anyone would say that was an undeserved splurge ladyholly, some towels that will no doubt be used almost every day replacing ones that are probably 20 years old if I know you, a pan to replace one thats probably been putting tiny amounts of non stick coating in your washing up water for a good while now and some cushions, again replacing some that have been used to destruction! Very very much deserved!
I'm assuming you are going to be firmer with mr lh now that he's getting the car of his dreams: you deserve to be driven to the supermarket once a fortnight in the morning when it suits you rather than waiting on him on the occasional afternoon trip? 13 days out of 14 he can wake when he wants, one day out of 14 he can get up, not moan and take you to any shops. After all, its food, drink and cigarettes for him you go out for as well as for yourself, its not much to ask a husband to do for his wife after you've been so lovely as to get money released early specially for him? Get it in diary for evert second Tuesday or whatever suits

Normal to feel unsettled what with a very big thing happening even if it's a good thing, and it's still another stage in the grieving process isn't it, wrapping things up and starting to move on.
Your splurge doesn't seem in the slightest bit extravagant, and I hope to hear while Mr LH is away that you've been carousing with undesirables til the early hours in all manner of unspeakable ways, or at least that you're eyeing up some nice curtains or somesuch1
