Please check that the DWP have notified the HMRC of your state pension correctly, they have history of getting it wrong.  However any pay received by 5th April should be in the last tax year not the future tax year which starts on the 6th, so that also needs checking.  I made the mistake of thinking my tax affairs should be a doddle once I retired.  I was wrong, they are definitely harder.
Thanks yes it is all correct but because I get an NHS pension in addition to my state pension the tax I pay every year goes up but it is taken on the NHS pension. I will get the general increase in state pension in the next cvouple of weeks but it seems they are already taking more tax out of my NHS pension. which I dont understand as they seem to be taking the extra tax before they pay the state pension increase.
I hope that makes some sense.

Yes, that makes sense.  It’s HMRC that don’t make sense.

I actually dread this, I've always been PAYE so never had to worry about tax.

I'm glad the theatre was good and you have lots more trips to look forward to.

My (Tory) MP posted on FB that the Lib Dems were spreading misinformation by saying that people would be worse off as a result of the tax changes.  Clueless!

  • If you're feeling a bit breathless might you also have hayfever?

I had to do self assessment for a few years, but now they have brought in simple assessment which in a way is harder because you are having to check their figures & so far they have never been right.  They don't even get my state pension right because they take the figures DWP give them & they are wrong.  A very long time ago (before computers & even before calculators) I used to work doing calculations for a living.  The hardest part was being the one checking the figures not doing the original calcs.  Much easier to file your own SA than to check their simple assessment.  I also wish they didn't both come up with the initials SA.

It sounds like a nightmare.  I've got some time to hopefully get my head around it before it's needed on my part.

I get a "newsletter" every month from our tory MP. It is uaually good for a laugh. The trouble with many MPs is they live in a rarified world so they have very little idea how most people live.

If you're feeling a bit breathless might you also have hayfever?

It isnt hayfever as it comes and goes throughout the year and I have a condition called chronic ideopath urticaria or to put it in English I get hives and can be very itchy for which I take prescription anti histamines all the time. Many people who have myasthenia have breathing problems although very few neurologists think it has anything to do with the myasthenia. Mine certainly doesnt. It has been a bit better today .

    Good evening.

Well I am even more confused as to why my pension is slightly less this month. I do get a rise which will be from the first pay day after the 8th April. Sham I am paid on the 7th so will have to wait a whole month before I get the increase. The state pension rises from the 4th April. Both are paid in arrears so it looks as though my tax is being taken in advance. When I get all the paperwork I will be able to see more but although I have had notification of the state pension nothing from the paymaster  generals office re my NHS pension yet. It is always late and usually I get two rises within a month or so. It would be much better if they could sort themselves out but it is another dept run by an MP !!!

A very chilled day with little acheived but thought as my breathing was off it would be better to do little which I have achieved. We had boiled potatoes withdinner so in the MSE spirit I cooked enough for tomorrows roasties. Usual checks on the veggie babies, washing put away.

It has been fine all day but very windy. There is a large tree down on the green area where we walk Bear and my green bin has been blown half way across the garden. The wheels now have stones in front of them.

Meals. Lunch - scramble egg, sald b&b. Dinner - gammon, boiled potatoes, runner beans, peas, broccoli. Snacks Banana, yoghurt & small piece of cheese.

It’s been warm here but also very windy. Ideal drying conditions though.

What a faff with the pensions 😐
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
