Child & Co RBS Branch to close

For me it took human intervention passed on by Cora but it was fairly straightforward. Although thinking about it I don't think they actually have a copy of my signature from that or other accounts.0

I'll try it on my Drummonds account and report back.

That’s a good point - I’ve not signed anything for them, and I think the ID check is done via third party so doubt they’d have a pic of my driving licence to compare signatures.JezR said:For me it took human intervention passed on by Cora but it was fairly straightforward. I have tried to order a cheque book several times from Barclays, I was asked why I wanted it! RBS is easy in comparison.0

Same! They told me to go into branch because it was my first one, and then they tried to persuade me I didn’t need one and showed me how to do payments online - even though I told them I knew how to. They then agreed to send me one, once they were convinced that I needed one, but they asked far too many questions.[Deleted User] said:I have tried to order a cheque book several times from Barclays, I was asked why I wanted it! Same story here a while back. Requested a Barclays chequebook via live chat and was assured it'd be with me within a week. Two weeks later went on live chat again and got the same response. Another two weeks later was told on live chat that as I'd, opened my account online I'd need to visit a branch to provide a specimen signature. No issue with that, I'd have just liked to have been told sooner. Went into the Liverpool branch, waited forty minutes to provide said signature and then, when I asked the guy 'helping' me if he could order me a chequebook, was met with the response "a chequebook? In 2017? Are you sure?".ForumUser7 said:

A while later I walked into the Liverpool branch of RBS to open a new current account. The whole application took less time than I'd waited in Barclays just to provide a signature and when I asked the lady if I could have a chequebook she replied "no problem, I'll make sure that's ordered for you".
Although we'll see if I get a similarly hassle-free experience when I call 'em later to request one for my new Child & Co account!

I think you'll find that the Drummonds and Holts branches are open to new business. Drummonds may direct a non-HNW person online as they're very short staffed in branch.Marchitiello said:Yes, I meant England (edited my post) and just for clarity, Drummonds does not allow new account applications in Branch, it all needs to be done online now, and the accounts are effectively managed by the central operations anyway for all RBS/NatWest accounts, unless you have been assigned a personal/premier banker, so as per their official Statement, the only operating branch/brands will remain Drummonds, Holts and Child & Co (the address name changed to Victoria (B) does not mean that the branch is closed to new business (in that respect all the three brands/branches are, as if they remove the branch selector form we have discussed several times on this forum, and you open an account online from anywhere in England, you will be assigned a virtual sort code.
Obviously, neither Fleet Street or Victoria branches now exist to serve as home to Childs customers. They are now housed and run from a Manchester service centre.
Effectively closed to new business, doesn't mean a hard stop. The main group brands are now actively marketed along geographic lines.0 -

They never had a web presence, for example.Ultimately I'm not really sure what the issue is here. They are slightly rebranded RBS products, many users including myself (and my fiancée) earn a few quid a month off them. There's no risk that these accounts will end up being closed because the debit cards currently say a different brand on them. Nobody is expecting anything other than a cool card. There's nothing to stop any brand on any card disappearing, as the customers of Abbey, Alliance & Leicester, Yorkshire Bank, Clydesdale Bank, Northern Bank, Williams & Glyn, Martins etc etc will tell you.0 -
Maybe you should stop posting your assumptions.IanManc said:
Although a Manchester "branch address" is stated on online Child & Co statements, the address given at Hardman Square in Manchester is actually a NatWest Group corporate office and there is no branch there. Child & Co accounts are actually "run from" the service centre in Chatham in Kent, just like they were when the Fleet Street branch was open.Deleted_User said:

You keep on saying that Child & Co is "closed to new business" despite the fact that you have no special knowledge on the topic, and the fact that forum members here have repeatedly posted about having opened new Child & Co accounts since the Fleet Street branch closed.
Maybe you should stop posting your assumptions as if they were fact.
I actually think that in the RBS/NatWest reshuffle, the three brands/branch left operating in the UK being only Child & Co, Drummonds and Holts, and the confirmation that the Child brand will live on as a Virtual branch,
Another other poster referred to a 'virtual branch' that simply doesn't exist and I never said the Manchester location is a branch; it's just a group admin office. Closed to new business is accurate as the branch is closed & accounts won't be opened barring a questionable legacy form or already having an account at that sort code.

I couldn't care less and this is frankly getting boring.WillPS said:Deleted_User said:

I simply pointed out that Child & Co was closed to new business whilst (for the time being) Holts and Drummonds aren't.0
