I believe you need to search by post code rather than sort code now?

    Nope, sort code works.

I decided to test this by opening a new savings account. It would appear that – contrary to what I was previously made to believe – it is indeed your oldest account that determines your home branch, not the latest one.

I applied for Child’s in 2021 and Drummonds in 2022. The account I opened today – without selecting the SC myself – is at Child’s.
Odd one, this. I've held a Select, and then converted to Reward, account at Liverpool Dale Street since 2017. As thread contributors know, I opened a Child & Co Select, followed by another in the past couple of weeks. Two days ago I opened a Digital Regular Saver, expecting it to be Liverpool as per your findings with your new account.....but it's the Child & Co sort code! Opened a Flexible Saver yesterday......also a Child & Co account.

It's odd, as Dale Street was my home branch in every way - I actually opened the account in the branch and did use it.

Maybe they're just not assigning the Liverpool sort code to new accounts and it therefore defaulted to my other current account? I guess the only way to test that would be for someone in Liverpool and not an existing RBS customer to open an account and see if they were assigned the Dale Street sort code.

Both savings accounts were opened in-app and I was given no choice over branch or sort code.

    Sure.

Original RBS account was opened at Greenock branch in 2020. Matching Digital Regular Saver opened at the same time.

Child & Co account was opened the year after via "the form", and subsequently the original account was closed (switched away) and the Digital Regular Saver closed. At this point my only account with RBS was the Child & Co account.

Subsequently opened another account and a new Digital Regular Saver, both were automatically assigned to 15-80-00.

Then in December 2022 opened a Drummonds Select via "the form".

So as of today my oldest open account is at 15-80-00 and my most recent account is at 16-00-38.

Just now I've opened a flexible saver, and that has been assigned to 15-80-00.

So what are we thinking here, 15-80-00 trumps all other active sort codes?

I suspect it's a manual process and just depends which branch the person selects?

Has anyone got the redesigned cheque book?

I have one issued in 2021 and one issued in 2022 (separate accounts). The Child & Co watermark is more obvious on the 2022 but other than that the only difference is that all the pages before the cheques have been removed, as well as the wording 'Premium Account'.

The savings account was opened immediately at 2245 hrs, so no, it's not a manual process.

That's the first time I've seen a chequebook I really liked since my (actually still useable I think) Yorkshire Bank ones and my NatWest Student Account ones from many years ago that had pictures of wildlife on them. Does one have to call to order one? My last RBS cheque book was ordered in-branch but that's not an option now. Has anyone seen a recent Drummonds chequebook?

It must do. My theory about the Liverpool Group sort code being somehow not open to new accounts is trumped by your findings as Drummonds is very much open (card received yesterday, nicer than in the pics I've seen but not as nice as the Child one). You'd think it would default to Drummonds though, what with it being an actual functioning branch,
