A quick question - I’ve been told this elsewhere but to corroborate…

I know you have to open the Drummonds “account” via the select account form - but once open can I upgrade it to a Reward without losing any of my Drummonds stationery

Does this also apply as and when the card were to expire in 5 years?

Yes. I upgraded my Child Select to a Reward pretty much straight after I opened it. First statement arrived today and it's Child-branded.

One can only presume so, unless they've moved Child/Drummonds accounts to punter-class stationery by then!

I do not think the Rewards account has a dedicated card even for regular branches so why would this affect the Child/Drummonds cards? In any case, I have had standard select, Rewards and Premier Rewards now and always the same card (account managed in branch, so I had a personal banker and Drummonds card even as a Select Customer)

It's a reasonable question. Other banks give different debit cards based on products held, but Natwest Group instead do it based on your status - which in practice means premier customers get one card, and everyone else gets another - except in the case of Holts, Childs (15-80-00) and now Drummonds (16-00-38) when regardless or your status you will get a branch-branded debit card.

I think we should enjoy the Child and Drummond card while they last. Certainly in the next 5/10 years many people will switch to mobile virtual cards (as many currently do) and actual plastic cards will become more and more basic, with banks caring little what they look like. At some stage soon I suspect real cards will become non default and require a request to obtain.

I never used my Child card in public, due to criminal activity. Especially in London, you can be watched and marked for theft if you appear to "have money" which someone may assume should they see a Child or Drummond card. So it is not wise to show wealth even if you do have it.

    Riiight...
  • Because someone will pay close enough attention to you to notice what card you have and then know enough about obscure British banks to recognise a Child’s card, right. They totally wouldn’t just look at phone and watch.

They don't need to know what the bank is, the card looks like it represents money, that is all that matters. Of course they would look at your phone and your watch as well, but we have entered a period where criminals deploy advanced techniques to target victims. They know someones phone code before the phone is stolen because the victim is observed. If you wave a private card around it will only attract attention to yourself and make you more likely to become a victim. If anyone thinks this doesn't happen they are naive.

How would they know a Child’s card represents money? It’s not a well known thing, it’s not a recognisable card like a Coutts card or an Amex Platinum or a Barclays Premier
