  • Great to see they are keeping the brand going.

For Drummonds, I applied for an account post Child closure and received the hut card. Standard RBS.

A coupple of updates from me.

Somone I know, annual income in the sub £30k bracket, applied online and received the Drummonds MC debit card, but worth saying that even before the RBS branch closures in London, Drummonds would have been the closest to her in terms of arial distance.

Not sure this has been shared before, but I have just noticed (downloading a statement from online banking) that my Child & Co account, under the Branch Detail section, it now list:

LONDON VICTORIA (B) (where it previously listed CHILD & CO. BANKERS, FLEET ST)

    1 HARDMAN BOULEVARD

    MANCHESTER M3 3AQ

My son's child saving account also "held" at Child&co is still set up to receive paper statements, and the last one (edit to add: September statement) still was on Child&Co headed paper.

  • Interesting. Do you know when they applied, and if they were already an RBS/NatWest customer or if this was their first account?

As far as I understood, she applied end of October, for the RBS switching bonus. She had NatWest accounts in the past but not for some years (again as we discussed switching bonus eligibility, she shared this with me).  They do have an RBS credit card.
  • Just noticed that the Child & Co logo and thus brand info have been removed from the NatWest Group’s our brands page…

My now switched out Natwest account was being moved to their Edinburgh HQ. Seems like they're doing consolidation of their internal setup.

This is different though, this one of the historic brand that they made effort until recently to keep and that even spent quite a bit of money refurbishing the historic branch in Fleet ST. The branch has now closed but they have confirmed numerous times that the brand would continue,  and are indeed still sending Cards and headed paper branded Child&Co so the removal of the brand from that webpage (where Drummonds still appear) is not line with their message ao far.

They appear to have met that fairly vague commitment if they've retained branded cards and documentation.

It doesn't mean that need to keep the branch, it open to new business nor actively market the brand in any way. It can be left to wither on the vine with other parts of Natwest Group picking up new business.

Yes, it appears destined to die a long, slow death. Presumably the new debit card design at least buys that a few years before it'd be at risk of being quietly withdrawn, but who knows!
  • Latest data point:

On my last account review I was pre-invited to apply for an upgrade to Premier Rewards and that triggered a new Debit Card being ordered, which I just received today, still on Child & Co full stationery but the newer MasterCard (ma Visa version was still with 2 years of life).
