Child & Co RBS Branch to close

All irrelevant to the point though, which is the Child and Co debit card is not the only consumer Visa Debit card Natwest/RBS are still issuing. The only official word from RBS is that the branded cards and chequebooks will remain.Deleted_User said:
I can tell you that Retail (not Private) customers applying remotely currently get a standard RBS branded debit Mastercard. Not sure the relevance of the HSBC card. The zero annual fee purple one looks much nicer IMO.Marchitiello said:
I can tell you that Retail (not Private) customers that bank in branch (not only virtually selecting a sort code when applying) do get the Drummonds branded card. Aside of me not being a “Private” client, a waiter I know that work in a restaurant nearby that I frequent weekly, and that I have seen in the branch, has the same Drummonds card.Deleted_User said:
We're going over old ground - retail (i.e. not Private) Drummonds customers get a standard RBS debit card by default not that version.Marchitiello said:
I can’t actually remember, but I guess it may have been RBS generic.WillPS said:
Are the posters RBS or Child branded, incidentally?Marchitiello said:

I drove by Fleet Street recently and it did feel like a dead part of town. It was never a busy branch, but I guess even their main customer base (lawyers) are working more from home post COVID and thus gave the branch the final nail in the coffin. In any case, there are giant posters in the windows confirming Branch Closure.Edit:
Both cards for comparison with a third one to help hide the personal details

No - you advised of your experience - which I neither confirmed nor disputed. Someone else could have equally be given a RBS branded card from branch. Given most applications are now remote, an RBS card is clearly the default.Marchitiello said:
You first said “old ground” and that retail customer get standard card. so I corrected that statement as Retail customers that actually bank in branch get the Drummonds card.Deleted_User said:

i also explained that the other card was there to cover personal details as it was the only one on hand that had “zero” personal details on the front (Santander Zero, Amex Platinum and Chase I also had on hand, all still had my name on the front side), thus making it easier to publish without having to use an editing /blurring app. It was not for relevance and once you are picking up on the design, the previous one with the Lion was better IMO. I have use for it still this year and then I may downgrade at some point, to upgrade back 6 months later (maximising bonus/Avios).
Child & Co offer branded cards by default. That is a difference with Drummonds and it's far from clear that this will survive the migration of the customers to Victoria and to debit Mastercard. The Drummonds card is also a Visa debit which is fated too.

My experience and of other people I have seen and obviously not on premier type accounts.Deleted_User said:

you may apply remotely but are you actually going to use the branch at some point, also remotely (via phone)? If not, that is just a virtual sort code, hence the standard RBS card. If you are “serviced” by the branch people, you are likely to get a branded card, although I also know of some that did not get it initially, but I since found out it was an online only RBS card.
Child &Co also issued standard RBS cards to many people, plenty of reports in the original thread of this (still around 2016 about half of the people reported RBS debit cards being sent).

I am tempted to apply for a Drummonds account to settle the dispute.
I note I have received today a Child & Co branded statement as normal (marked fleet street address)
What will arrive next month!

You 100% will not receive a Drummonds branded debit card. That card has to be manually assigned to your account and only the branch staff will do that for you. You will however receive a Drummonds branded chequebook and statements.[Deleted User] said:I am tempted to apply for a Drummonds account to settle the dispute.

Why Drummonds is set up that way yet Child & Co isn't, I have no idea.1 -
I agree this is highly likely, but I will report back once I have the card (if able to open the account)WillPS said:

@WillPS
It would appear I have received an RBS Mastercard with the house on the front. So sadly as you predicted no Drummond card. But I await the arrival of the actual card, but I have added it on Apple Pay and it is an RBS design.
Next I will go for the cheque book!
Final warning, Child & Co is closing within a few days, if you want an account, the time has now come!

The Drummonds card shows as such (Drummonds branding) on Apple Pay. I have previously uploaded a picture on a separate thread but have since remove it from my Apple Wallet.Deleted_User said:@WillPS

Wow amazing. Be interesting to see what the new Mastercard design is like.Marchitiello said:

They have not yet created a Drummonds nor a Child & Co design.. I guess it is either because they have plenty of stock of the existing cards (e.g. min production run vs issues) or because they cannot fit the red/yellow MC symbol against those colours (interestingly the digital version of the Visa card looks more refined then the hard version where visa sits within a white box.[Deleted User] said:

The MC Santander Select card with standard MasterCard colour has lost the edge it had with the Visa blended branding.. I would have tried to use the MasterCard World Elite symbol like Chase and other DC have done (not actually offering the optional WE benefits)0
