Long time lurker, I've taken the bait at this offer from NBS and placed first 5k.
Could be a while yet before 5% is offered but 4.5 is probably not far away.

Do we think rates will be higher in 1 year?
I get the impression that the premium for longer fixes is narrowing which suggests the institutions are factoring in lower rates beyond a year. But what do they know? Or me, for that matter.

So why take a one year fix?

Presumably because they are paying more right now than easy access.

I meant if  you think rates will be lower in 1 year then why not take a longer fix?

The theory is that if rates are likely to decline in the short term then fix now for a long period.

    Welcome :-)

And well done on taking action. I was happy with 3.26% three weeks ago for September's lump.

Hopefully be even happier next month if/when that tranche gets 4.5%.
  • I’ve also opened one , sent a small deposit initially but hasn’t cleared yet.
