Nice gesture by GB Bank… my unfunded account from a few days ago is still appearing at its original rate so I've opened a new account at the higher rate which secures a good worst case option for funds maturing soon from elsewhere…

Interesting to see GB Bank ( another buy to let mortgage lender) has also joined the fray to attract 5 years fixed monies from savers.

Certainly suggests the smaller lending banks and building societies may well be looking to retail deposits to 'infill' the backing to their medium term mortgage lending as an alternative to the SWAPs market.

Current carnage in the SWAPs market suggests more smaller mortgage lenders may follow the examples of WB, GB and Shawbrook -

Useful background article below on the market machinations which is now producing a flurry of potential attractive 5 year deals for savers, although not so good news for borrowers.

Well…gradually returning to this thread as my Hodge 2 year fixed 4.51% is due to expire in November and never imagined two years ago that current rates would be just above 5%. pretty much all the talk was how rates would be dropping, of course nothing is set in stone.

5 years is a bit too long for me for a fixed. I've opened 13 month at 5.06% with Kent Reliance, as have a fixed maturing tomorrow needing a home. 14 days to fund. I'll stick £1000 in as that's the minimum to open and keep an eye on Moneyfacts to see if anything better comes along within next couple of weeks.
