Ted_01 said:@ janusdesign - thank you, I've decided not to do it.I never imagined seeing rates increase again right now as they have with FirstSave.
Rates aren't increasing BTW - Metro and JN Bank aside (who seem determined to hang on to the top spots !), they're dropping overall, on an almost-daily basis. Banks that I use like OakNorth and Charter have been dropping their rates at least once or twice a week recently.
That First Save account is an anomaly and I would guess it won't be around for much longer, as it's a fair bit higher than the next-best 3-year rates. They're still advertising other accounts (like their 12 and 18 months fixes) at 6%, despite them not actually being available any more if you were to try and apply. That's pretty poor.2 -
@ refluxer - thanks for the reply.Yes RCI do have a cooling off period, its stated at the bottom of the summary box on this page - https://www.rcibank.co.uk/savings/3-year-fixed-term-accountYes I see your point about the unavailable FirstSave fixes, that is quite poor. Their website does generally seem a bit basic, maybe unprofessional, but maybe that doesnt matter.(edit - the TrustPilot reviews for FirstSave dont inspire much confidence either, think i've well and truly decided against).0

For what it's worth - FirstSave do allow multiple deposits into a fix, at least they did in the summer when I funded mine - you'd need to check the current T&C. If they'd had that 3 year fix 10 days ago when I opened one elsewhere I would have jumped on it then - as it's better than what I did get - and I did check on all of them and they all said it wasn't available. I've not had any issues with them myself and took a chance when others here told me they were happy with using them. I said at the time that the web site looks like it was designed in Microsoft Publisher 20 years ago, but it seems to work just fine.1

I have a 1 yr fix maturing on 14 Dec which I want to put into a Metro 5.8% fix however I am going on holiday within the week and won't be back till 17 Dec. Can I open a Metro a/c before I go, put in say £10 then when I get back put in the sum rec'd from my matured a/c? I know sometimes you have to make your deposit within a specific timeframe but I couldn't see anything on the Metro website. Any help appreciated.0

From the T&Cs, if you're opening the account online as a new customer, it looks like you have to open their Instant Access account alongside the fixed rate account. You then have up to 30 days to fund the instant access account up to the amount you previously agreed to deposit into the fixed rate account, at which point the money gets transferred automatically.Middle_Sister said:I have a 1 yr fix maturing on 14 Dec which I want to put into a Metro 5.8% fix however I am going on holiday within the week and won't be back till 17 Dec. So it looks like you can open one now and fund it when you get back, but be sure to read the fixed rate T&Cs carefully yourself as they're a bit more complex than most fixed rate savers I've ever opened...
