Sorry to hear about people's sad memories on this day
I used to live near someone who was on the Sir Galahad during the Falklands War. He used to shut himself away on this day each year, it was too painful for him to be around people
I went along to the local ceremony this morning. I'm ex-military and will always make the effort to attend something, wherever I am. One time about 20 years ago I was at a festival of remembrance at a town hall with some Chelsea pensioners and danced with one of them, both of us in our uniforms. He tried to teach me how to waltz. He must have thought i was hopeless as I kept stepping on his feet

Hi chums well its been a long day and I'm finally home.I have everything crossed for my dear sis-in-law bless her, on the way home because there was so much traffic I stopped off at my eldest Dds for a cuppa, and a quick natter to update her on her Auntie Val who she's known since she was a little girl.
Then my eldest grandson Danny rang from his home in New York and told us that him and his wife are expecting their first child and it cheered us all up and was a really bright spot in our day .
My DD didn't think they were going to have any children, and its her first grandchild, and she is so excited, and so am I so another great grandchild on the way for me to knit for. So a day of swings and rounderbouts, highs and lows, but my sis-in-law is a fighter and she won't give in easily bless her.
Today is such a sad day for some as its hard when you see the services and how folk have been affected by war. Hopefully the war in the east will come to a conclusion soon and the country will mend
I'm now going to rustle up something to eat and dig out some nice patterns for knitting although I may wait unitl she's 12 weeks before starting.
Its Dannys 32nd birthday this Monday and he said he was going to wait until before he told his Mum but he is beaming with excitement aand just couldn't wait any longer. it dosn't seem that long ago I was knitting a Postman Pat and his black and white cat jumper for Danny to go to nursery in, and now he's going to be a Daddy himselfThe circle of life keeps spinning

For those of you who lost a loved one on armistice day, turn it around if you possibly can. Accept the world is grieving and saying Thankyou,, to your beloved as wellI always find I HATE how the world carries on when Im mourning. My FIL for example died on a public holiday here, my step father who lived with us died Boxing Day and my MIL a week later. Hard to mourn on dates where everyone else in in holiday mode. So why not take on board, that for a few minutes, the whole country is remembering those that went before - your loved ones ? Might make it easier for you xxxxx18

I have been to my SA today sorting out donations while the Ukrainian hub was happening. This is a meet up for local Ukrainians - somewhere safe and warm - the mums and dads can chat over a cuppa while the children enjoy themselves - doing crafts, playing board games, Lego etc.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

OH and I went for our covid/flu boosters yesterday. On the way back we called into a local village hall where they were holding a "Tea and Cake" event. £1.50 each and we had a coffee and a slice of the most delicious apple cake we have ever tasted - it was moist and tasted of almond. The lady who baked it said it was a really easy, all-in-one-bowl recipe - but was reluctant to give me more information. Has anyone on here got any ideas on what it might be?? @Florenceem maybe??
Later we drove to Asda to get some bits and ended up in their cafe partaking of their Over 60's offer of soup, roll and bottomless coffee - all for £1. Excellent value as a cup of coffee alone is over £2. I think we may go there again."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.15 -
A quick google came up with these possibilities:
The first 2 use apple slices in the cake- the 3rd cooks the apple to a puree beforehand

or a tray bake that is similar to the first 2 above

Frugalista - It is annoying when someone is precious about a recipe - far better to tell how to make a great bake.
Been to Church - very moving Remembrance service.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I take it as a compliment if someone asks me for the recipe for something I've made.14
