Same here except its dog claws. Their dew claws can get quite sharp.Jellytotts said:I'd love a heated throw but cats claws and electricity don't mix so I'll pass on that for now.

It's still freezing here. Mid-April and I am still glued to my HWB unless it's a sunny day, in which case I benefit greatly from moving into my kitchen. The other day it was so windy but sunny and the kitchen was just a haven.Wednesday2000 said:Thanks for the advice. I will definitely buy a heated blanket/throw for both of us.:) I might look today actually to have it ready for when the weather gets cold. Saying that, there was a thunderstorm with hailstones here in London a couple of days ago! Back to bright and sunny today, though.
I am wondering how cold my new house will be as we are moving in 3 weeks and it is a much older house than we are in now and also close to the sea. I will have to make sure I get all the tips for keeping warm on here.
Good luck on the move, life is so much better down here!No man is worth crawling on this earth.

@Rosa_Damascena You can look up kwh usage on new house https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate, will give you a rough idea for heating and water kwh and then calculate on new prices Also what improvements can be made21k savings no debt5

I have trimmed everything to the bone! Aside from a nice home that is admittedly far too big for me, I'm living like a pauper in middle age because although I'm on a good wage - and do I work for it! - I fear the day I will be without income. I've just been through Martin's tips and there is not one area that applies.otb666 said:@Rosa_Damascena You can look up kwh usage on new house https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate, will give you a rough idea for heating and water kwh and then calculate on new prices Also what improvements can be made
My next search will be for additional p/t work, so at least I get paid for the extra hours I put inNo man is worth crawling on this earth.

Prudent said:I was in Poundstretcher today and they had a pack of six halogen (?) light bulbs reduced to £1. They are the right size for my kitchen lights and after the 50% reduction worked out at less than 10p a bulb. I did notice most prices were extremely inflated though.

My conservatory is getting any of the spring sunshine and making it a nice warmth in there. Unfortunately most of the sofa is covered in belongings fetched back from daughter's student digs that still need putting in her room. I know the conservatory is the warmest place currently as the dog keeps on going and dozing in there!6

Yes, I am looking forward to the move, but that is what I feared that it will be colder there!Rosa_Damascena said:

I'm thinking of getting rid of my tumble dryer too. I have an airer that I use most of the time anyway.sammy_kaye18 said:
Thank you so much lovely. I will definitely look into it and see if I can find some.Jellytotts said:@sammy_kaye18. A bag of postcrete will sort your washing line out. It's pre-mixed and you just add water. Just make sure your hole is around about the size of a bucket in order to get enough weight to the base to stop it tipping again. If you buy a "pole sleeve" for your washing line you can set that in the postcrete and your washing line can just slot in when you need it and then get put away over winter/when using the garden.
I am dreading or loathing putting on the tumble dryer this year. So much so that I am considering selling it altogether.2025 GOALS

It is actually warmer and sunnier, I fear we've had a longer winter than we would normally expect. I am enjoying my Saturday in the sunshine but reluctant to set foot outside knowing that aside from a walk along the seafront, everything costs.Wednesday2000 said:

I have an over the door airer which I tend to use for smaller items like socks and underwear. If the weather is nice then I flip it around to outside our back door which is in a little sun trap in the garden and hidden from people. Then when its cold/wet/night time I hang it inside.Wednesday2000 said:I'm thinking of getting rid of my tumble dryer too. I have an airer that I use most of the time anyway.
Then I have a whirligig washing line and luckily my garden seems to get a lot of sun.
My mother in law has a heated airer though which I think I might look into because it will save us more money in the long run and my father in law has worked out that it takes pennies to use.
If worse comes to worse I guess I can always stand an airer in the greenhouse!
Time to find me again9
