PFP Energy to British Gas Transfer

I was one of many energy customers who's existing supplier, PFP Energy, went bust and so was moved to another company, in this case it was British Gas.
My first interaction with British Gas was on the 11th September where they welcomed me, on 10th October my electricity account was successfully transferred over to them and I was advised my gas would be active by the 20th October.

Fast forward to now and it still hasn't been setup despite multiple interactions with the company and logging a complaint regarding the issue back in December. My biggest problem with this is that I don't have a clear idea of what I'm spending, plus I'd be worried about moving to another supplier before I have a fully active account with British Gas. (My only reason for moving at this stage would be the poor communication).

My reason for posting is to gauge whether anyone else has experienced similar issues?

Yup! Fairly similar. Had a few emails saying elec account and then gas account had been set up but couldn't set up online account. The FAQs and chatbot were useless. Finally got through to a human on 23 December who set up everything then got my first bill. Like you, I was given not info on the price/KwH until the bill dropped on the doormat (the customer service agent had failed to set up the online account. I live in a semi. The gas bill was £159 and the elec was an eye watering £415 to cover the 3 months since Ofgem transferred us. We're wearing extra layers in the house, cooking on one hob using steamer pans and I'm going back to the office so the heating can stay off during the day.

    Couple of pointers

    - British Gas have had a fairly comprehensive FAQ page since September when they were appointed by Ofgem.  In particular this has the tariff information so if you have meter readings from September time you can work out what is being spent.  Page is here: PFP Energy - British Gas

    - Who is listed as your supplier for gas on Find My Supplier?

    - There have been delays reported with the transfer from PFP, it doesn't appear to have been very smooth. SoLR transfers often aren't but even by those standards the PFP transfer is taking an age, final bills haven't even been produced yet!

    - There was this thread today where someone reported their electricity hadn't moved to BG successfully and had gone to some other Iridium Energy (formerly PFP) — MoneySavingExpert Forum

    - Raise another complaint with BG and don't allow them to close it until you are happy that your supply is moved over
  • I'm still waiting for it to be sorted, no final bill from Pfp.
BG set my gas up in November,  paid first bill in January,  now that want me to back date standing order payments to September,  the day pfp stopped trading,  no charge for gas used. But not having final bill from pfp and £120 credit still missing.  I've not idea what pfp administration will try and charge me. Assuming I'll has same issues when BG get my electricity sorted. I am still in contact with BG representative via text as I maid a complainta few months ago.
Any pointers on what I should or not pay?
  • Also are Pfp legally allowed to charge me after the date that they stopped trading?

They are absolutely allowed to charge you for the period up to 11th September, and that is where their final bill should end.
BG are allowed to charge you for your use from 11th September onwards. So far they have only billed you for the daily standing charge from that date, but the usage will be billed back to then once they have the final bill agreed with PFP.

Administrators have a statutory duty to recover as much money as possible from debtors, and they have 6 years (I believe) to do it. Clearly, no failed company can charge for services provided after they went into administration. Under SoLR regulations, the failed supplier’s Supply Licence is revoked from 23.59hrs the day before the SoLR appointment starts. It follows that only the SoLR can charge from this date going forward. The failed supplier can however charge for the few days between the announcement of cessation of trading and the formal start date for the SoLR.

    Hi,
latest update from BG re transfer, next update due Thursday,

Final bills and balances from PFP Energy

We’ve now finalised talks with the administrators and other parties for the closure of PFP customer accounts. We’ve agreed that we will take on both customer debits and credits and are in the process of confirming these balances and will move them over and let you know the amounts. This will take a little more time and we hope to notify you in next four weeks. PFP will shortly also be sending through your final bills. Any credit balance owing is protected by Ofgem.

    Have a look HERE.

If you have meter readings from the time PFP went bust and you have your previous bill from them then you can work out what the final bill should be, there shouldn't be any surprises.

Likewise you could work out what you will owe British Gas for.
  • Thanks bagand,
I know what I should owe, but I don't trust pfp administration one little bit, due to changes that where made on my account( but that would take a while to explain)
What I mean is how much Pfp are going to try and charge me!
