@Rosa_Damascena bit confused by your comment "The best way of offering support would be to distribute the food".    thats exactly what we do on Olio.   we collect from tesco etc then offer it out to people on the App for free who collect it from us

We're saying the same thing. The stuff I won't eat from TGTG ends up on Olio and is snapped up.

4 quid for ham/cheese baguette and dry croissant.  i also got chicken Caesar wrap i wont eat.  none of this was wastage (as was in date still)as it was just taken off random shelves as i watched. i essentially got a free croissant for giving up my choice.

this app just encourages dodgy business's to post fake ads in a bid to create  custom for themselves.

It does seem a bit hit and miss and I think you are right that some businesses are just using it as marketing. Greggs seem to get good reviews so if you are looking for bakery items and have a shop near you give them a go.
  • Tried it twice, 1st Costa got 3 sandwiches for £3 (£9 claimed value), OK but nothing special.
2nd time was Gridserve EV charging station cafe, a joint Costa, M&S Food, W H Smith bag on TGTG, claimed £12 original price for £4 (see pic for what I got, all M&S Food). Whilst it's just about OK for £4, it has made me resolve to never shop in M&S Food ever again. If that lot costs £12 in M&S Food, it's a ripoff

You only just got £10 worth there I think. But if it is a shop at a garage they always charge high prices which are higher than normal M&S prices. Don't know what M&S charge but I've put Ocado prices in brackets where they can be found there.
My guesses for the price at the garage would be
£4 for the salmon pasta (£2.95 at Ocado)
£2 for melon (not sure on pot size but small 130g one at Waitrose is £1.55)
£2 for eclairs (£1.85 at Ocado)
£2 for rolls (£1.90 at Ocado)
So from Ocado/Waitrose would be £8.25, my guess with the garage charging a location premium its £10.

But yeah for £4 its a bit rubbish.

Costa bags are usually 3 lunchtime items. Its is cost-effective if a) you can consume everything, and b) if you consider each to be a main meal a day at £1. I probably wouldn't buy any of the items I have received for £1 YS but I guess its the thrill of the lucky dip that entices.

By way of comparison, I nipped into my local Tesco Express for some milk this evening and came out with this for £3 precisely - which will keep me going for a lot longer than a Costa bag:

It's not really comparable, though - the Costa deal is complete sandwiches, whereas you'd have to buy your own fillings/toppings in addition to the £3 you spent.  Great deal, but bread is always the cheapest part of a sandwich.

A few more stores are appearing in my location now, including a Harvester, a Sushi place and another convenience store.

For me the novelty is wearing off. By the time I finish work, its YS time and I can get a lot more that I know I will eat / share for less money.

I only bother with my local bakers as they have a good long collection time. Some of the carvery type places are late at night only and the Spars and Morrisons are full of the cut herbs that nobody even buys when they are reduced to 5p.
