Hi Cheap as chips, i posted on your sell my car thread.... wanted to see how things were overall.

Sounds tough at the moment but you are doing all the right things...

  • Hi, Maz3374

Thanks so much for the message, it just helps having people to see it from a different point of view.

i know some people think its a rash thing to do, but it is something we have considered before and it will hopefully only be short term ish
if we sold the car it would clear 2 debts and these are the ones that are pushing us over the edge.
once the summers over my hubbys wage should pick up and our overdraft will be paid off and that alone will give us an extra £200 per month

i could then think about getting a cheap little run a round as mine is quite big.
and the kids are off for 6 weeks during the summer

    what do you think?

    thanks

    Hi

I now that it was only december when you last posted an soa, but is it worth doing again, so we can have an upto date picture ?

Can you reduce the payments to any of your creditors for the next couple of months and then when money is better make up the missing payments ?

I would also really look at the advice about not selling your car, but simply taking it off the road. This would save you insurance, petrol and road fund. Plus a rebate of any existing road fund left on the car. This should give you some breathing space and at least £100 per month more - okay it is only 2 weeks of food shopping, but every little helps.

  • Well, i know alot of people on here think i am mad but i have sold my car and the gentleman is picking it up today.

i was touched that so many people offered my their views and advice and is was all taken on board.

in the end it all came down to the really basics. we are 2 weeks from pay day , my hubbys needs £60. per week petrol to drive to his calls. we have no food in the house for the 5 of us.
we have 3 direct debits that would have bounced and our bank account is £-30 in the red (for which we are charged £5 per day) and £25 for each dd that bounces.
and we are late on 2 loan payments.

we got about £600 less than if we had sold private but the time it would have taken to do this and the cost would cancel out most of the extra anyway and we would have defaulted on our loans, bounced our dds and not feed us all. it really was that bad we have nothing and no way of getting it.

now we can cover all loans, dds, get petrol and food and pay 1 loan off in full that was pushing us over the edge every month. and all but clear another one, we have some breathing space and peace of mind (which at the moment is priceless!)

we are hoping that come winter i can get another car, just a cheap run around for me and the children.

hubby is going to try to be here as often as poss for some of the school runs, my friend will help with lifts if needed and the typically the kids are excited about walking to school (or on the scooters) they ask all the time and i always bring the car!

once again thank you all for your help x
