  • great news, DH has to go to another meeting next week and £40 in extra petrol and the micowave gave up today!!

still got 15 days to get through with practically no money, transfered £120 ebay money on tuesday but it allways takes ages to come through

went from feeling really positive last week to feeling like i am drowning this week and i can't stop this vicious circle.
i know from looking at our income that we should have more than enough to live but where is it going!

  • Okay, finally made a start in the olympic challenge

£140 into the bank from ebay sales.

things are looking a littel bit better than last week now , we had to change some holiday money to see us through last week
we were given holiday dollars from mil and fil for august holiday (that they are also paying for)
so we had to cash half in ( i know we really did not want to but had no choice)
this will get us through until the 25th (payday)
have also started a spending diary, so we are set and i will make sure next month we will not be in the position on having nothing in the bank.!

  • Hi hun - sorry first time I have posted - as regards Husbands petrol surely if it is for work it is expenses, if not he should really speak to his employers as it is not his business to pay for business expenses IYSWIM, maybe he could get a petrol card, my OH has that and it does make a difference.

  • When OH got his company car last year we had various options abvailable, one was where the company paid for business mileage or what we do is get taxed higher but from source and all our petrol is paid and he just gets a petrol car that pays for the petrol at any station. If you OH works for quite a big company then it is worth speaking to HR or fleet management and see if this is an option.

It works for us as it keeps us under 40%, just but also we always have money for petrol, and as it is at source then we dont notice it, I think doing this way cost us about £50 a month more in tax but it is really works as far as budgeting goes.

Take today OH has to go to Hull (upnorf!) and we also had to pay for the new policy on my car and it is wonderful to know that I dont have to dig around the sofa to give him the monies!!

    HI cheapaschips

Just wanted to say well done for riding the tough patch you've had so far this year!! Hindsight is a great thing...but maybe your husband could take a spare suit with him next time? If he got dirty in the petrol station, was it there mistake? Could he contact them and complain?

Your family is very lucky that you are making so much effort in securing a better future for them :)

Well done on ebaying, I still haven't done that yet!

  • Hi there,

Just wanted to say god luck in getting through the rest of the month! :D

A bread maker is a great investment, and saves SO much money! I dont know if you're anything like me, but when the bread used to run out i had to go to tesco, and inevitably i would but more than a loaf...some crisps, fruit, fizzy drinks, veg....list goes on! :o

I've also found that if i write down exactly what i buy in a big notepad, and keep all the receipts together that im much more conscious of what i'm spending. Just doing the grocery challenge this month has enabled me to reduce debts by an extra £200 this month! :grinheart

Good luck, will subscribe to thread and look forward to reading about your progress! :T xx
Back and ready to save some money! :D
