Just popped in for a catch up. Glad dh is doing ok. I have had a couple of good buys off everything £5 and a couple of rubbish ones that didn't get worn. Am now much more organised about wardrobe and only keep stuff I know I will wear. Sent much to charity shop and miss very little of it.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -
The problem with wearing your clothes to death is that you tend to need to buy a lot of new stuff at once when you realise there's not enough left that's fit to leave the house in...
Where I live, most people buy seasoned or even kiln-dried logs and kindling. (How well seasoned it is is debatable, and most of them wouldn't have a clue), whereas I've either been burning bits of the house, or trees I've had to take down (because they are too big/dead/have honey fungus) since I've moved in. Everyone else has the wood taken away and then buys logs... they're also very worried by the pallet/fence post/bits of house/softwood burning - luckily my chimney sweep is a realist and burns the same stuff as me and says the chimney suggests it's all burning well. And she leaves the soot for me to put on the garden too!5 -
Glad to hear that DH might be getting out soon
@greenbee - I thought the problem with burning fences was that the wood was pressure treated with strong chemicals to prevent rot?Mrs E's dad burns all kinds of crap in his chiminea - the fumes that come off MDF scraps are enough to send me inside!

I wouldn't burn MDF as it has solvents in it. Most of my fence panels are pretty old, so probably the preservatives have leached out. However, as I have a stove, there's not so much of an issue with fumes (I burn painted wood too, but only as kindling and only in small quantities - curtain poles and rings have been in the mix recently.5

I've just had a load of logs delivered too. I fondly hoped he might shove them in the garage, but. No.3

The consensus here is that I should stack them, or I just moan for days about how poorly everyone else did it. They are right, but it is still annoying. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I hope your DH does get out on Tues, Alchemilla - I had a client one time who had an operation and managed to get out when her wound still had a drain in (very unusually, I agreed to visit her at home, only done that one other time in 30 years).2023: the year I get to buy a car5
