That frankly sounds a bargain for a big job well done by people you trust, that has already given you and Mr KK a ton of joy and it's only been a few days!
And sounds like you had a day of being rather brilliant yourself so think of the use of your labour, time, and skills as the money saved to pay for it.
Savings and OPs are important, but you've got to have pleasure in your life to make them worthwhile otherwise what on earth are we striving for0 -

Absolutely money well spent. Working on my garden, I realised when a garden "gets away" it is just so hard to get it back under control. Employing someone to do the work totally worth it - yes - it could have been an overpayment and knocked of months at the end, but, spending money this way means you get to enjoy the house quite a bit more now rather than worry and guilt (this is how I have justified my garden work
)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Thanks all for the supportive responses, I do appreciate them. Sadly, it would take OPs of 1,000s not 100s to take months off our mortgage duration, so little OPs, needlessly not doing or having things I want does start to feel a bit pointless…
Spending on the garden though does give a huge lift and lasts quite a while, so is a good ‘investment’ if not done too often I think! 😉
Very humid and heavy here so today will be a quiet day, largely indoors as I did get a bit burnt yesterday. Might try a few small decluttering tasks.

If you have a garden you can entertain friends in, it saves money on cafes and restaurants and pub meals. 💰
If you are growing your own crops more productively you are saving 💰
If you can sell extra plants as a side hustle it is 💰
If it stops burnout, it is priceless.

Having a gardener means I can really enjoy my garden because, as you say, a good one goes in like a dynamo and does a job 10 x better. I think about mine versus what I (recently used to) earn. OK, carp wage of about £13/hour for me. Gardeners were getting twice that. 2 of them for an hour = £45. What they'd do in that hour I couldn't do in 8 hours so I think that's good value. And I don't get hot, sweaty and have a bad back for the next week.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Chloe has acres and acres of woodland to play in! But yes, the reduction in stress and physical wear and tear for me is significant 😊
Being very lazy today - too hot to be active …
- I have folded Mr KK’s washing from yesterday.
- Thinned out and tidied two chest of drawer drawers in my bedroom (only the small ones at the top though, so don’t be too impressed! 😂).
- Found, cleaned and filled a large dish and a few rocks to disguise the now very visible manhole cover in the cleared border. (Need to add something as a wildlife ladder … 🤔) It’s softened that ‘offence to the eye’ quite well 😊
- Found a fixed term, decent interest rate savings account to wodge £10K into - in parallel with setting this up, had a deep and meaningful text conversation with a friend about why she was going to change her surname and to what … (the extremes of life! 😉😂).
Much reading, some crochet, much chilling 😊🤷♀️KKAs at 15.07.25:

As one of the outputs from the mindful eating I am trying to smooth my carbs / blood sugar input a bit. To the end whenever Mr KK has white rice I’m now having wholemeal rice mixed with wild rice. Mr KK, in his inimitable way, has now labelled this ‘crazy rice’ 😊❤️😂

Eating almonds before carbs can help smooth out blood sugar. You only need about 10 or so. It might be worth trying a blood sugar monitor for a couple of weeks to see what helps.4
