A friend of mine is finally surfacing from a really nasty femur break she experienced before Christmas. It’s her birthday soon and she has asked for socks (she has a lot of nerve damage in her foot and a sock makes her foot feel safer) and books as she is finally getting the ability to concentrate enough to read.Anybody got any suggestions for comforting and encouraging socks and books. She is my artistic friend so a gorgeous picture book might be an idea? (But physically not too big / heavy.)

When I've struggled with concentration, I've found poetry a good place to start as poems are (generally!) shorter than fiction, but do hold your attention. I find my. mind wanders from pictures - but maybe talk to her about what her concentration span is like and whether she's after images or words.
As far as socks go, there are loads of 'nordic' type socks around. I've also had some nice 'sofa socks' from Pachamama. Slipper socks with proper leather soles might also be a good idea as they're easy to get on and off, warm, but also safe to walk around in.4 -

I am a bit of a curmudgeon when it comes to our two, but I love them just the same. Perhaps not to the extend of my SIL, who recently bought her cat a sofa!

Hope your weekend of rest shifts the lurgy. TK M*xx often does nice quality socks at discount prices if there's one accessible to you. Would she like the Thursday Murder Club books? They're engaging but gentle and the chapters aren't too long. You can probably get a cheap second hand one from am*zon or a maybe a local charity shop2
