Gosh, what a rotten day! Poor Mr KK, and poor you, that must have been scary for both of you! Glad he's got some painkillers now xx1
-
Poor both of you, sending hugs. Pain is really, really rubbish.
Just keep reminding yourself that at least it wasn't worse, a nice passerby was helpful, there are options to hopefully manage it, and you'll have a nice day out again soon. Not much comfort right now I know!

Poor Mr KK, and there is not a lot you can do except insert hot water bottles and take painkillers and do weird stretches. I got stuck in the bath once with it, and a couple of times I got stuck on the bed - I have only had sciatica when I was very pregnant, and it was intermittent- DHs response was rolling around on the floor in hysterical laughter, he claims that I looked like an upturned Turtle - you obviously got the memo that this is not acceptable behaviour. I hope it disappears as quickly as it came on.
The telescopic magnetic sticks are for when you have dropped the nuts and bolts inside the engine housing🔩 and they don't come out the bottom of the car. Magic item those magnetic wands.

Poor Mr KK. And poor you - it’s horrible watching someone in that much pain. There is a pressure point somewhere for sciatica that cuts off the referred pain - if he can get to a decent physio they may be able to help him locate it for any future episodes. Or he can DIY - it’s somewhere in the buttock (there’s some info here that means it’s not just me remembering something weird and random that helps me personally, it is actually a thing… https://www.lifeadvancer.com/relieve-lower-back-pain/). It can give immediate relief (I had years of chronic back pain, can’t take anti-inflammatories for more than 3 days and am allergic to opiates so have investigated a lot of options - colour visualisation is also good, and aromatherapy is surprisingly effective once you get over the desire to thump the person who suggests that it might help your writhing-around-in-agony pain). Also Epsom salts. And TENS or electrical acupuncture to break muscle spasms. None of these fix the underlying problem, but they are all lifestyle options that can help relieve pain when you can’t get to a medic, and more importantly, won’t make it worse. Also gin is an anti-inflammatory, as is tonic. That definitely isn’t medical advice 😎.

Thanks @CCW007, @beanielou, @pennysintopinds, @debtfreewannabe321 - he’s learned a few of those moves for managing what I would call ‘ordinary’ sciatica but this is more extreme. He’s in no fit state to be exploring any of this stuff atm.@ladywithaplan, I agree, yoga and regular stretching is the way for him to go. I hope the pain levels he has experienced this time will actually persuade him to invest some time / money in himself. He’s developing a widow’s bulge at the top of his spine which isn’t hurting yet, but will and he definitely needs better overall posture. I am thinking of contacting the lady I did Yin yoga with and book and pay for a course of private sessions with her for him. She’s a lovely person, very gentle but also absolutely ’on point’ too. If I spend the money up front he would be more inclined to see it through as he’d hate that money to go to waste.@Cheery_Daff, it was pretty horrific. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone in that much pain before and of course there is literally NOTHING you can do to help. The painkillers, even the prescriptions ones don’t seem to touch it ….@f0xh0les, I have to say that I am quite impressed that Dr F still lives after responding like that ….
The telescopic magnetic stick description does ring a bell … 🤔 I think he used to have one but the garage is in such a mess, who knows where it is now! Maybe I should get one for myself 😊
Thanks for all the advice @greenbee 😊 I will share with him when he’s a bit more compis mentis. He’s not keen on gin … does whiskey have similar anti-inflammatory properties ….? 🤔😉 Actually, he’s totally stopped drinking, stone dead! Which is a relief to me as he has been drinking a LOT over Christmas ….
He did manage some sleep and had obviously made it to the loo in the bathroom next to me in the night (without waking me very much) so he’s slightly more ‘functional’. Unfortunately he doesn’t yet know what sets his pain off again, moved unfortunately this morning and has been howling again. I took up water, coffee and biscuits and left him to it …. Probably time to check in on him again now.KKAs at 15.07.25:

Oh no poor Mr K What rotten luck at this time of year. Hopefully he can find some relief and a good physio to help soon.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
He’s currently howling and wailing from his knees with his head buried in the sofa. Painkillers aren’t touching it. There is nothing I can do …. Utter misery for both of us.HRMC say I owe them £180.80 - how can I owe them anything??!! I paid them all the tax required at my old job, have earned barely anything in interest in 2024 and haven’t had any income from the new job yet??2024 can do one!😢

@KajiKita hope Mr KK soon improves. Good suggestions upthread. Re tax, I had to call HMRC recently. Once I'd held for 30 mins, I spoke to someone who was completely on top of her game. It's worth calling and asking I think. Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx2

Again not medical advice but maybe the gin would relax his muscles enough to let the pain ease or at least make him care less about it?
And maybe one of those microwave lavender bags heated up and placed on the affected area???I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
