@LadyWithAPlan, I give the chickens reiki to remove any stress or distress from the body before I cook it and feed it to Mr KK, so that stress / distress doesn’t get passed on to Mr KK. It’s something I learned from my American Buddhist teacher who lives in Japan, whose wife does it with all meat before cooking it for her family.

I also do it because I lived as a straight vegan for 4 years and did an animal communication course some years ago and although I sucked at it! 😉 I got enough insight into how chickens (and sheep interestingly 😊) see the world, that I want to give that individual chicken that is dead in my kitchen, something back for giving up their life to be food. I see it as helping them in the bardo and with their rebirth.

I appreciate that for people who eat meat without a second thought this will all sound VERY odd (I did for years and years, but 8 years of praying daily, for the end of suffering for every sentient being, permanently changed something in me) 😉😊 but I struggle with having meat in the house and having a whole bird (I.e. a full corpse) is often horrific for me. This allows me to go through this process with a minimum of distress for me. It’s like an ethical compromise. 🤷‍♀️

For those that do reiki, if you try it, you will feel the difference before and after doing it in something like a chicken or even an animal you have come across that has been knocked down by a car.

I appreciate that this won’t align with others’ views and some may even find it a bit challenging. If so, please be kind on my thread.

I learnt to do reiki and as I said I also offer a prayer of gratitude for their lives so certainly I am not the judging kind..
I was also veggie for years but it does not suit me healthwise no matter how many beans and veg I cooked ;)

In Buddhism certainly the circle of life is there, bees get eaten by birds who get eaten by bigger things etc  including us so giving thanks makes sense.. I will get my hands  reiki-ing whilst thanking the sausages I am about to cook ;)

  • I celebrated the end of seven years of vegetarianism by eating an entire packet of ham in one sitting.
We all gotta do what we gotta do.

I broke 5 years of strict veggie, plus about 2 years before of mostly  veggie, with beef wellington and salmon on a New Years Day pub lunch. I then slept like a lion for the afternoon.

You've just reminded me about a cyclamen someone gave us last Christmas.  We had it indoors and then I planted it out in spring and it flowered right through and looked lovely.   It was in the wooden trough but I haven't noticed it for a while so will check on it tomorrow if there's a pause in the rain.

ps very impressed with the Drawer of Doom sort out.

Your drawer of doom inspired me to finally hoover the bicarb out of the new-to-me chest of drawers in the garden room and line the drawers (with wallpaper), and start putting stuff in them. It's good to have a few things out of the way - particularly as I have visitors tomorrow!

  • I'm in Mr KK camp regarding food, but thank you everyone for sharing your beliefs and how your actions and rituals it has been very thought provoking.

I've had a cyclamen on the kitchen window sill for years, with plenty of foliage and regular long lasting flowers, earlier this year it went brown and dried up, despite me watering it, it stayed like that for 6 months plus and a couple of weeks ago a batch of healthy new leaves appeared 😊 no idea why it went dormant nor for so long, fingers crossed yours recovers too 🤞
