The prospect of anyone turning up fills me with horror, not because of what they think but, more importantly, how I judge myself. Much sympathy.

The only reason I would buy a house 5 minutes away from my parents is because they hate unannounced visitors just as much as I do. 'Always when you are in the middle of making something awful like plum chutney'

never when you are admiring the clean house, with lovely home grown roses in vases and a nice batch of shortbread fresh out of the oven. Even if you gave me a weeks notice. And if it did by some miracle happen, I would then feel guilty about the unreasonable pressure I had put on someone else.

Thanks @brie, @redofromstart, @f0xh0les and @PennysIntoPounds, I feel less alone in my anti socialness at least! 😉😂 I used the sloping ground excuse for not allowing her to park her camper van here.

@PennysIntoPounds, I think it’s the endless, analytical questioning (that drives Mr KK nuts …) that I can cope with about me and my life, over a lunch somewhere else, but not about and in my ‘space’ for some odd reason. Along with the fact the last time I visited her we went to her allotment and it was IMMACULATE. I mean weirdly so. Every paving slab was perfectly matching, spotlessly clean, level and perfectly aligned, there wasn’t a weed in sight and everything was perfectly spaced. It was SO …. it just gave me a real sense of ‘uncanny valley’ …. In my veggie patch otoh, I deliberately cultivate clumps of foxgloves as the bumble bees love them and I love bumblebees, there are definitely weeds and tufty lumps of grass and random plants deliberately placed in odd spots as I have run out of bed in the original location and, and, and …. When she saw my veggie patch she said how lovely it was to see it ‘looser’ - I just can’t believe that she really means that, after seeing hers …. and then that sits false with me and I feel on edge. Am I making sense?

    Anyway, in other news:
    - Took a Yacon plant into work today with growing instructions for the grumpy man no one likes - he smiled his face off at me 😊
    - Downloaded last three wage slips for mortgage advisor and sent them off to him as a nudge … (he should have emailed us yesterday!). He has now replied with a list of what we need to send him.
    - Negotiated meetings back to back and overlapping all day! I believe I was useful to some degree in all of them.
    - Responded to queries from new Parish Clerk in my capacity of acting Chair …. and so it begins … 🙄
    - Set some new ground rules with one of my team who is taking the mickey ….
    - Coped with the manager, who is not dealing with the shouty person, being all weirdly ‘nice’ at me this morning after they’d been spoken to by my boss and HR yesterday …. Their behaviour was odd enough that, after they left, one of my reports who was also sat close by, looked round with a ‘what the ….’ look ….
    - Mr KK spent an hour pulling fern when we got home and I did 45 minutes of bindweed bashing 😊
    - Two rows of knitting done - onto several rows of easy repeat now 😊
    - Qualified for next round of N@tionwide payout 😊
    - Lunch etc all done. Just shower and bed linen change to do now 😊

Well you can't trust someone who irons their allotment, KK,  trust in your axe-murderer alarm.  Spidey senses are a-tingling for a reason.  A nice lunch somewhere else and a trip to a local garden sounds fine.

That makes sense, and endless analytical questions are fun or at least useful when it's a best friend over a bottle of wine but not so much when you're trying to have a nice catch up over lunch with someone you don't often see. Maybe her comment about your veg patch is very telling in that she's so intense because she doesn't know how to appreciate the mild chaos that is life, and it was serious and genuine in its admiration.

But enough of my amateur psychoanalysis!
That is a bloody brilliant productive day, I am most impressed. How lovely that grumpy man turned into smiley man for you and your plant 😊 And if you don't want to do acting chair things, just say no, they can't make you and it's not you that's created this situation

    I thought you'd refused this?

Hope you get some nice weather over the weekend. I'd love to see your garden in person - but I think I'd be as distracted by the view you have. I am selective of who can come here - and what level of tidiness it has to be at. I think with everything going on and your recent bereavement it's natural to feel a little less resilient too. But definitely trust your inner alarm. Redirect to garden centre or NT property or similar.

Genuinely, it was a bit weird …. I’m very fond of her but that made me feel very ‘far’ from her ….

@PennysIntoPounds, that’s an interesting perspective. She is very controlled in how she lives, very risk averse (I used to think I was until I met her) but it shuts down so much for her ….

Er, how did you end up as acting Chair 😱?
Ummm …. The chair resigned, very suddenly after just 8 months, and so far no one else wants to step up. As vice chair I have to fill the gap, for now at least … I have made it very clear that this is a temporary solution.

I tried but the only way to absolutely avoid it would be to resign from the Parish Council and I don’t feel able to do this at this point…..
The forecast is good for Saturday so I will be pootling in the garden all day and then going next door for a barbecue 😊 Even better, Mr KK is coming with me now whereas before he going to be away 😊
