Thanks for this. We have noticed that we submit as 0189232, but our bill appears 189232.

So this would seem to be in line with previous figures. It is our current reading that baffles us of 1193.137

The reading in the photo has a decimal point.  As @Gerry1 says just above:

The top photo at 7:13pm shows a reading of 0189●232

When taking electricity readings you ignore anything after the decimal point.  It is 189 kWh not 189232 kWh.

As discussed above, and if you read the other threads linked by @QrizB, your meter likely used to show the reading as 5 figure 12345 kWh without decimals.  It has gone wrong, reset itself to Zero, and now shows a 4 figure kWh reading plus 3 decimal places 1234.000.

We had this exact case happen recently with another user on the forum. A meter update somehow reset it back to 0, and added the decimal point and additional 3 numbers, where before there was none.

The supplier for that user said it was a meter fault and sent someone out to replace it.

It is deceptive that the 5 figures look in line with previous figures - the meter had gone strange before this reading.  Looking closely at the photograph of the meter you shared for this reading it has a decimal point and shows 189.232. It is probably just chance that it looks similar. While the 5 figure reading you gave on the 23/9 isn't astronomically high it still looks higher than your other use and so higher than you want to be paying.

This is my meter after 5 years. It is the same type of meter as yours. Note no decimal point.

    Hi

we have currently submitted a reading September 2021 just prior to
green energy going bust. The figure we were billed on at the time was 18923.000
Oh dear. You should have omitted the decimal places. I'm surprised it was even accepted by Green Energy.
A smart meter only gives total kWh's for the electric so I would assume there is something wrong with the meter if the usage as increased that much in such a short time. There doesn't look like there is a decimal point in the figures and it's the same type of meter that I have, a Landid+Gyr E470. so as I said the meter only gives full kWh as a reading.

That is how BG, the largest user of that meter type, set them up but they can show decimals with other suppliers.

Technically that is not the right screen. If you are on a single rate supply you should read Rate 1 (R1) which is a couple of button presses away, but in the vast majority of cases that will yield the same reading. If you have an off-peak supply then you would also need to read R2 (R3, Rx if applicable) because the Act Import figure is the sum of all rates. If the meter has formerly been multi-rate and is now single rate, the Act Imp and R1 won't agree.

    Hi all

thanks for your comments. I will dig out figures for pre-September but we stayed consistent with previous owners methods of reading. So I am guessing we have read it wrong but how do we now correct this so that I don’t end up with a ridiculous bill

this also doesn’t explain the increase in reading in just one day.

Sorry all, you can probably tell… I’m not that clued up with all of this

Look closely at the meter, you see the wee dot before the last three digits, you ignore whats after the dot when giving a reading, did you not do maths at school?  Your one day use is normal for winter.
No matter how hard I look at my meter it only says the total import, ACT 1 & ACT 2 imports, because I was on BG free electric when I had the meter installed

    Hi all

I have no way of changing the screen. There is a button on the meter but this appears to do nothing.

So the pictures we sent is all we can access on the monitor
