Haha, who knows maybe they have been 😆
Well we have spent half they day today at hospital visiting mil who has fallen over and broken both hands and wrists plus some ribs and has a punctured lung 😕 it happened a few days ago and luckily dhs younger brother was there at the time and drove her to hospital (no ambualnces!). Dh has been there a lot, including most of the night the first night, younger brother is at home with fil. Who knows whats on the cards as they have refused all care up to now.
Hospital are aware shes the main carer for fil, so hopefully everything that needs putting in place will get sorted out, they cant let her out as she is with no help.Good job we never booked the Easter night away in the end!

I really hope so SC, ages ago dh got as far as having aids delivered and adjustments made by the local social services, within a week fil had made them come back and remove it all, stubborn doesn’t begin to cover it unfortunately. They will now have no options realistically to maintain control over what happens, its a rather sad and scary situation to be in, but sadly in many respects it was a matter of time until something happened ☹️

Sorry to hear about her accident, she's done a big one to herself.
Its such a shame when people think they can overcome age by refusing to deal with it. Much better to gracefully accept it slightly before its needed ggiving you time to adapt, rather than have it forced upon you. I cant think it will be an easy time for dh, his brothers and fil but I hope I'm wrong and he is grateful this time for his sons trying to help. (I hope also dh and his brothers can present a united front as I know thats been an issue before)

Hi Daisy, thats the aim- we saw older brother briefly at hospital Saturday and he sounds like he’s onside with getting help we will just have to see what happens I guess, we have not spoken to anyone there about length of stay or where she goes after. Dh is going in for hours everyday and feeding her when he is there as well as helping her to the loo which is not ideal. She did tell one nurse yesterday that shes ok to go home as her son can look after her 😳 poor younger brother definitely doesn’t deserve to be alone full time caring for them both. I do feel slightly guilty, but really don’t think I can care for mil at our house for months full time, we have not had the easiest of relationships and its a LOT to cope with.
Lovely Easter lunch yesterday at my parents with both boys and partners as well, more like a full on xmas dinner really with the desserts and cheese after, a right belly buster 🤣 back to cutting back today mind! Yesterday we managed a couple of early trips to the tip, finally the hot tub is going, it must be close to twenty years old now, so many happy summer memories when the kids were little, playing in there with their snorkels and lilo’s 🥲 it took two trips to get rid of just the broken up lid! He hasn’t even started on the actual tub yet 😱 Not sure if he will have time today but once it does go, it will be a lot roomier and I will plan a new garden 😬Currently its paved which needs washing and sealing again, its about 42ft long and 19ft wide, with a massive log cabin at the end and a conservatory over one side about 12 foot long, so long term if we stay here we may remove the cabin and potentially the conservatory. For now though those are massive expensive jobs so ill just make the best of what we have. Perhaps a little veg garden, I’ve seen some cheap grid type fabric planters online which may be ok, I would also like a decent herb garden.

Step away from the thought that you might offer to care for MIL at yours. A full time caring role for someone you love is hard enough but when the relationship is not the best beforehand then resentment and all sorts of other difficult feelings can creep in very quickly not to mention the exhaustion also presumably FIL would have to be there too? Please don't do it, slinks off having been uncharacteristically bossy.

Totally agree with Teapot! Do not step up for looking after MiL. I’m not sure your health, mental or physical, could take it ….
I’m intrigued by the garden plans … 🤔 Your patch sounds like quite a decent size. Why do you want to get rid of the conservatory?
