The clothes plan is not bonkers if you love your clothes. I am thinking of paring down and buying better quality stuff that will last for years (in reality all my clothes have to last years anyway 😂).

Thanks skintspice, I keep mine a long time too, just have too many 😆 I’ve struggled with what better clothes to but to make them last? I don’t see that much difference with basics from the likes of primarni, I’ve jeans and T-shirts I’ve had for years that are ok, some types of things I would avoid mind. Let me know if you have any tips, I guess buying second hand maybe.

    Thanks jessy 🙂

Ds1 is home finally 😊 this might mean I have to pop out and get something for dinner today as dh was going to continue cheese eating while ds2 and wife were having bean burgers I bought yesterday, supermarket on a Saturday won’t be fun,I might just pop into town and get sausages, I wish out butchers a few doors up hadn’t closed.

What to do today? Dh has been off work all week and we haven’t done anything, apart from meeting friends separately 😆 he needed a rest though! Maybe I can persuade him to come for a walk this morning 🙂

You've achieved so much in 2023 and you'll be free of your mortgage before long.

I don't envy you braving the supermarket today, I popped yesterday in the middle of the day but thankfully only needed a few things in a basket. They had run out of 4 pints of milk though!

Cheers Cath, we went to a petrol station tesc@ in the end and paid over the odds as I couldn’t face it 😆

I’ve just realised that I’ve not added up my mortgage payments for 2023, may as well do after all the work it’s been:

    💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

      January 2023 £57,618.40

      December 2023 £38,272.54

Paid off in 2023: £19,345.86 which is less than the target I just set in January of £22,372, but a big improvement from the year before where it was only a total of £7,319.80.

     The 2024 target is £25,280 though 😱

This year we have spent 42.5% of our total income from everything including the kids’ keep on the mortgage.

Next year if we stick to the figures it will rise to 49% if we get the extra £300 income and 53% of all income of not, a scary thought!

On that note I’m off to make a cup of tea and think about what I can list to sell 😂

Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed

Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!
  • What great progress on the mortgage - that’s a serious OP!

Can you imagine in 2 years when the mortgage is gone how much you can invest and pump up that fun fund!

On clothes I do buy vintage as you can get fabulous fabrics vs cheap fabrics/fashion now .. it’s individual and the butTons, details , hems etc are all made to last .
I often pay to get any vintage dresses tailored a bit to fit me perfectly - it’s not expensive.
I have also found some incredible dresses in CS abroad - I love finding a silk dress in Australia or 70s retro in LA and the French CS are amazingly cheap for designer stuff - so if you go on holiday go looking in high end consignment stores rather than their local shops.
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

    DH?
Not sure he would fetch much now 😂

Lady with a plan, that all sounds so glamorous! I used it wear vintage style fifties dresses when I younger but haven’t really in years, now I’ve slid into mainly comfy boring clothes unless it’s a special occasion, I would love to see your wardrobe 😁 food for thought, thank you.

Thank you Vix, this is true 😂

For New Year’s Eve we are off to my parents along with my brother for a takeaway, usually we don’t do New Year’s Eve really anymore but as we missed Xmas with them I thought we should stay up late and go.

Hopefully tomorrow I can use the cc for food again, well on the 2nd maybe as I don’t want to venture out on New Year’s Day, it’s probably all closed anyway.
I’ve already bought a few birthday presents since Xmas, the monthly savings pot is £200 for birthdays /Xmas renewing every January, my hope is to buy things not from the budget to create a monthly surplus if at all possible. So far after Xmas I’ve bought best friends presents for Jan and candles for mum and dil’s birthdays, a beauty set for friend in March, and earrings (bought before Xmas) for another friend tomorrow. Total spend without dipping in £165

Theres no way I can do this all the time but over the course of the year it’s worth a go and doesn’t matter if I can’t afford to carry on as the money is in the budget to pay for it all anyway.

So January I still have £50 cash to pay to best friends oldest as it’s his 18th, and £30 for my uncles birthday, doubt I can find the cash but the £30 I will try and spend on the grocery credit card if I can, January is always a frugal month anyway.

    Happy new year everyone 😊

    Happy new year!

You've had a great year! Well done. Can I ask, but please don't answer if you don't want to, why  is your goal £25,280? Its a very specific number!
