Hi kp, happy new year 😊
Of course you can ask! It’s just taken from my spreadsheet which shows how much I need to pay each month until it’s cleared in June 2025 (hopefully 😂) that’s this years 12 months worth.
I had to chuck almost all the veg my parents gave me leftover as it was rotten, the parsnips were fine so I’ve made curried parsnip soup in the sc which nobody fancies including me, who lunched on drumstick lollies and truffles. What is it about the week after Xmas which makes me eat like a five year old left home alone? 😆
MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Happy new year! That makes sense. Is it a push to make that amount?
I saw something on Facebook earlier announcing that calories start taking effect tomorrow so you enjoy your 5 year old diet while you can!2 -
Yes it’s a massive push to pay that much I seriously doubt it will happen to be honest 😆
Happy new year everyone 🥳 just spotted £5.58 interest has been paid into an empty savings pot, a great way to start the year! Paid that into the holiday savings pot for April 😬MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
Happy New Year NG! All the best for 2024 xMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.
Aiming to be mortgage free by my 40th birthday, June 2026!2 -
Thanks Jessy , you too 🙂
We’ll I’ve tied myself in knots already and it’s only the 3rd 😂 The long and short is I’ve managed to buy ahead some birthday presents already and not used some of the birthday budget, I was hoping to create a surplus through the year of as close to the whole £200 pm budget but that’s unrealistic so going ahead I will try to use half the money allocated and find half of it, thus hopefully creating an excess of £1200 along the way as a cushion, I must admit this has caused me some headaches trying to work it out last night, but suffice to say :
£275 presents bought leaving me £78.98 short in the current account
£137.50 from January’s Xmas budget going to the Xmas surplus bonus pot
£137.50 from febs xmas budget pot going to Xmas surplus bonus pot
£78.98 owing the new current account has been cleared from the caravan saving pot (was a £100 pot) plus £1 to saving a pound a day pot, then the remaining £20.02 went to the cruise saving pot. It seems daft to be saving for the caravan trip which is after the holiday when we don’t have an enough for the first one yet.If we do save enough to still go we will and if not we will offer it to ds2 and wife, fingers crossed we will get there though 😬
Phew, it would have been easier if there were less birthdays in January and less sales to get stuff for later in the year, but it was things a I wanted to get anyway for them 🙂
Dinner yesterday was a homemade sc red pepper and chilli tomato sauce with spaghetti (and meatballs for some) with just a small top up shop done in Lidl for a few basics. I went to the shops with mum and also bought the big clint@ns boxed xmas cards I wanted half price x 2 (£11 total) and 4x individual xmas cards for family in the card f@ctory with 75% off (£2.34!) and 2x birthday cards for £1 , plus got petrol and a £10 M&S gift card towards food for next Xmas. Total cc spend for the month so far £50.25 /£500MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2 -

Make sure you keep stuff together in a box and a list in the box and on your phone so you don't rebuy stuff you already have or for people you already have bought for.
No point artificially keeping money back only to have to spend more later in the year so use the present money this month as you see things. You will find plenty months later in the year where you won't need to spend that months present money.

I have loads birthdays end Oct to Dec which always means I hit Xmas shopping under prepared
@themadvix oops on the encouragement to buy !@newgirly you can’t really plan vintage shopping as it’s a pop in as you pass and see if the goddesses of vintage are with you kinda thing
There are a few things over the years I have never worn but that easily goes back to a CS - you would love my 2 double wardrobes
I also stopped eating like a 5 yr old Jan 1st and discovered I had pit on 4.85 lbs since Dec 9 so that’s my first goalDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
