Hello Ladies,
Yesterday was an eventful day for me. I went to the Mental Health and Wellbeing discussion group at Blackfriars Settlement from 11am to 12.30pm. I signed up for the music appreciation sessions that will begin in mid June.
I had lunch in a local fish and chip shop, as I did not have time to go home from Blackfriars Settlement and then get back to The Young Vic for 2pm. I had fancied fish and chips, but changed my mind when I realised it now costs £12.50. I ordered 5 hot wings and chips for a much more reasonable £5.75. It was lovely to be waited on and to eat in a really well appointed and spotlessly clean local restaurant/takeaway.
I went to see the musical Oklahoma again at the Young Vic and I enjoyed it just as much 2nd time around.I was given a special code to purchase my ticket for only £10. It is sold out for the remainder of the run, so it is a good job I bought my ticket in advance.
We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday and she was so happy that her Dad and older brother came to see her in the afternoon with cards, gifts and money for her. Then her older sister came to visit her in the evening with flowers, a card and money. She genuinely liked all of her presents from me and her personalised birthday card. She was really surprised that I gave her £300 as well as her presents, but I just explained that in my family, we always make the extra effort for milestone birthdays.
Late evening (after 9pm) I got a call from my doctor to discuss my latest blood test results and it really put a downer on the rest of the day. It was a catalogue of bad news. I am anemic, have type 2 diabetes, have a deficiency in vitamin D and have the beginnings of kidney damage.I am going to completely overhaul my daily exercise routine and keep to healthy eating without unhealthy snacks to reverse my type 2 diabetes. I will repeat my blood tests in 6-8 weeks time, so that I can be closely monitored by my doctor. I was really annoyed about the type 2 diabetes diagnosis, as I had never had a pre-diabetic diagnosis even though I have regular blood tests.

I am a bit annoyed as I didn't remember that we were supposed to be seeing The Killers in concert (postponed due to the pandemic) but it is on the Jubilee weekend. I had trouble getting a kennel for my dog as everything was booked up but finally found one, but then I couldn't find a pet taxi to take her there and pick her up. We decided to get a refund for the tickets instead. I hadn't seen them before, but I'm sure they will do more UK dates so I can hopefully see them one day.
I am looking forward to the weekend as my brother is coming to stay. My husband was supposed to be seeing the band Aha this Friday, but the lead singer is ill so that might be postponed too.
I am planning on getting a Chinese takeaway on Friday night and then going out to a local cafe and to a few bars and the beach on Saturday. We will probably get another takeaway and watch a movie Saturday night.
I am really liking that beauty balm I bought from Superdrug. It reminds me of the Clarins flash balm, but obviously much cheaper. I also bought some serum by the brand Pacifica. It is a collagen one. I need to dye my hair today as I still haven't done it yet. I will go and vacuum upstairs now and make up the bed for my brother and then get around to doing it!:)2025 GOALS

Sugarbaby - I am sorry to hear your news, but looks like you are in the right mindset to reverse that diagnosis. My DH is also borderline diabetic and is doing more exercise and we are eating even more healthily than we have been. Its not easy, but it can be done.
Wednesday - looks lovely - I have never been to Leigh on Sea.

So pleased that your daughter's birthday went well @sugarbaby125 but the timing of the GP's phone call really wasn't ideal. You have to give them credit for working so late in the evening though.
I think Vitamin D deficiency is becoming increasingly common but I believe that sunlight helps so it's the right time of the year to work on that. You are a good cook and have often posted healthy dishes so I'm sure you'll get on top of the Type 2 as well. Exercise is difficult for you with your health problems but gentle walking outdoors should help. keep us posted as to how you're getting on.😊
Leigh on Sea looks great @Wednesday2000. I've not spent much time in that part of the world. I remember my uncle taking me to Southend when I was a child but that's about it. Would you post a link to that beauty balm please. I like the Clarins but stock is low at the moment. I'm going on holiday in 3 weeks so that will give a good sheen when I have a tanned face.
I've almost given up on the idea of anything new to go away. I bought a shirt/dress to wear over bikinis.
Pink Stripe Linen Blend Shirt Dress – Pink – Matalan
I don't mind short dresses when my legs are tanned or when I can wear leggings/opaque tights underneath.
I will go to the city centre and have another browse but otherwise I'll just manage with what I have.
We're going to a funeral this afternoon. The wife of one of DH's friends died suddenly. It's so sad as when I last saw her a couple of months ago she was telling me how they planned to travel lots to make up for lockdowns. It does make you think. I've just taken out an annual travel policy so we really do intend to make the most of it. You never know what's around the corner. 🤔
Sorry to finish on a bit of a downer. Have a good day all.8 -
Thank you Mrs. P and Maman, I will document my weekly progress with regards to my health.
Maman, this particular doctor at my surgery always calls you extremely late in the evening, just when you have given up all hope of hearing from her. The good thing is that she took the time to go through the blood tests results with me thoroughly and she also made sure that I understood what she was telling me, simply because there was so much information to go over with me.8 -
Oh, sorry. I missed that bit of your post earlier. That is a bit worrying Sugarbaby. I hope you can reverse the damage with changes to your diet/exercise. I had low vitamin D back in 2017 and the GP gave me high dosage tablets to take and it did work within 6 weeks as I recall when it was checked again. He said a lot of people would benefit from taking vitamin D in the UK as it is hard to get it just from the amount of sunlight we have here.
I need to get a routine blood test too, thinking about it. I need to join a local GP surgery next week.
Maman - I looked up Gower when you mentioned it. It looks really nice there. The balm from Superdrug is called Naturally Radiant Radiance Balm and it cost £4. I'm going to buy more at the weekend as it really suits my skin.
I've dyed my hair and it came out well. I'm not sure what to wear at the weekend going out as it rains much more by the coast so I have had to change my outfit more than once with the fluctuating weather.

Good to see you posting @helensbiggestfan. Are you still having IT problems? Hope you're feeling well. Do update us on any progress with your house sale. 😊
I'm having my hair cut on Monday. I've been letting it go longer (literally 🤣) since getting used to it during lockdowns but it needs to be done before I go away. I'm also saving a bit by not having highlights as I'm delighted with my natural colour. It'll probably get even lighter when I'm in the sun for 3 weeks.
Thanks for the info on the beauty balm @Wednesday2000. Gower is very lovely. I was living and working right at the start of the Gower coast in Mumbles. It's only 5 miles from the city centre but like a different world.

It's a glorious day here today, 20+ degrees. I feel so good when the weather is nice. 😊7 -
Hi fabbers, I’ve been reading along, but haven’t posted for a while. We’ve had lot of progress on our building works - the stairs to the loft are in and the chimney breasts have been knocked out. The plasterer is coming next week and plumbing and electrics will follow the week after that. The house is still upside down as we’ve had to clear out rooms for the builders to work in.6
