Wow @Laura_Elsewhere - you make me feel how close your wedding is! How exciting! Though I'm sure stressful too, so don't push yourself to hard. You and your Intended will have the rest of your married life together whereas the wedding day is one day. A very special and beautiful source of much happiness, by the sound of it but one day among the hundreds past, present and future which are the roots, growth and maturity of your relationship.
So don't stress if you can help it.
The red silk face masks, by the way, will be wonderful, and I doubt anyone else has thought of them. Truly, I think the whole look of your wedding is going to be amazing and glorious.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

On a much more mundane note, I bought two scarves at 20p each and a bundle of three balls of yarn for £1 total. Yes, I've been car booting again. No coupons spent.
I also bought some old knitting patterns: Emu knitted novelties B 23, mostly for fun as it's from the era of balaclavas and gollies. The little knitted zebra is cute, though, and the pompom rabbits. Another pattern is for traditional baby coats and the third is a 1940s jumper. Lucky me, especially as they were only 10p each.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Cherryfudge - you've said it! As soon as we had the actual date, we looked at the clothes we already had, and concluded that we had clothes that would be fine even if nothing else got made or bought or done. So everything is a bonus!
Same with the honeymoon - if needs be, we can pause en route at a supermarket and buy a load of stuff - it would just be nicer to have the things we really prefer... and also we're avoiding palm-oil now it's known that it causes an existing cancer to metastasise to secondaries... we don't yet know whether all those seven long weeks of M.I.'s daily radiotherapy have done the trick or not...
But it seems possible that it's all going to work more or less to plan, without any late nights or mega-stressing... not long now indeed
I think it probably has more in common with wartime weddings than most - we've been living for a couple of years now with M.I's cancer and its return, as well as with the threat of Covid - not the same as bombing raids but still, most of my friends married in times of carefree safety, so it has an added element of "thank heavens we got to this point together"... and I have to set off 7 days after the wedding to start commuting weekly to work away for half the week, for 5 weeks, but then during the war people married on a 24-hr leave, didn't they, so...
It's very much *our* wedding, which is the nicest thing. We're not having to work round anyone else's ideas of what we "should" have...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Hi all. I get very cold and dry hands and so wear gloves a lot in the winter, but am sick of buying generic knitted gloves as whatever I do I seem to wear through them very quickly and get holes. I have had them sewn up a few times, but they go again quite quickly. I have two pairs and both have big holes in the thumbs.Would it be better to buy myself some good quality (maybe second hand) leather gloves? Can I wear them in the rain though?I'm sure someone on here will know all the answers to my questions!2025 decluttering: 3,152🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅

Where do you get the thumb-holes? Is it where they pull at the join to the hand, or do they simply wear through at the top?
Most knitted gloves I've seen are very loosely-knitted so would wear out quickly, so you could try asking a knitter to knit you some more densely-knitted to last better.
Leather gloves are fine in rain, snow, hail... but they are not necessarily incredibly warm, being tight-fitting.
Have you tried wearing fingerless mitts, or wrist-warmers, thin ones, all the time and then old-fashioned mittens over the top of them when you go outside? The airspace at the top of the mitten does an excellent insulation job and I would say densely-knitted wool mittens will keep your hands most toasty! Esp if worn over thin wrist-warmers...

I was hoping leather gloves with some sort of wool/cashmere or something inside would be good for warmth?I think using the old-fashioned mittens over the top would still give me the same wearing problem in the thumb. I do only wear my gloves outside (although I don't always take them off for food shopping for example). I have no idea what I do with them, but I guess they are just well used.2025 decluttering: 3,152🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅

If it's just on the thumbs, could you sew some patches of leather where they wear out?2025 Fashion on the ration

Why not look for some Thinsulate gloves? M&S usually sell them in the Autumn ready for Christmas. Or visit somewhere like Cotswold Camping, or Go. They should have insulated gloves - and might even have some in the summer!
Leather will keep the wind off, but they would have to be lined with silk or wool to trap air, to provide any warmth. Or darn your gloves and wear them inside a pair of leather gloves. The cheapest proper leather gloves are probably to be found in the garden centre rather than in a clothes shop, though.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

PS. The warmest gloves I have is a pair of ski mittens by Helly Hansen. That's another option.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.
