I'm very pleased the storms are over (at least for the time being) as we had a power cut here which lasted 7 hours. I quickly realised how ill-prepared I am with no power. The last power cut we had I had a gas cooker and a proper torch. I have replaced the cooker with an electric one and the torch gave up the ghost. I have one very small LED torch that has a magnet on but the light was not that good. Thankfully a friend down the road (who also had a power cut) invited me round to hers where I could have a hot drink at least because she had a gas hob. I now have got myself a proper torch and I am going to explore getting a camping stove/checking my existing one works so if it happens again I can at least have something hot to drink. Other than that I have experienced very little damage on the greenhouse at the allotment and what there was we were able to repair without spending any money as we had supplies in the shed that we could use. Quite pleased with that bit of success.
On the clothing front I have done the adjustments to my pyjamas, repaired some tights (although I think that will be the last repair I can manage on that particular pair) and finished making the fingerless gloves to keep me warm at my desk. I have now started making a lightweight cowl scarf type thing as well. This has all been done using my stash. I am also in the process of making a warm winter dress for myself using double gauze. This was some new material so I need to work out my coupons on that one.
By the way, I love the colours of that sock wool you bought Pip.Lisa

I am glad you are all OK. How did we go from Storm Dudley, to Storm Eunice to Storm Franklin in less than a week? A couple of houses down, they lost the fence on both sides. We lost the single wooden fence panel between us and the house that we adjoin. (It was the replacement for a brick wall that crumbled 20-odd years ago.). The worst damage that I’ve seen is part of a chimney that crumbled, on a terraced cottage up on the main road. They had debris all down the roof.
@CraftyLittleLisa and @Cherryfudge thank you, re the yarn. I found myself drawn to blues and wine-red. The black Caithness yarn is made up of several plies and very rounded to touch. It will show off texture well. If I can find the pattern for that jumper, it was primarily a couple of cables flanked by K2P2 seed stitch.
On a (slightly political) topic, I am worried by the news from the Eastern Front. I do feel like we’ve been dragged back to 1938-39 this week, anxiously watching and waiting, but hoping for the best.

@PipneyJane you’re not the only one concerned about the news on the Eastern Front. A lot of posturing taking place and not unlike the annexing of the Sudetenland I believe. It’s all increasing my general sense of unease with the current world situation.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

I too am deeply worried about political events... feeling very helpless, too.
On a brighter note, I finished off my 'Pinks' slipover, using up four shades of pink-maroon that I bought and then thought were a Dreadful Mistake, and then suddenly they worked...
Ignore last night's pigtailsI did eventually get round to combing it all out and putting it up neatly!

Ooooh, I love that slipover! Beautiful colours. Not to mention @PipneyJane's fabulous sock yarns too...
The storms seem to have passed our house & garden by somehow, and haven't made too much of an impact on my allotment, but a few of the other plots are fairly comprehensively wrecked; sheds tipped right over or flattened, greenhouses ruined, two "Wonderwalls" also flattened & broken. Sad to see. I was away at the weekend; I drove down to Torquay, over the high coastal hills, through the worst of Eunice, but in a two-and-a-half ton van it wasn't too bad. Danced the weekend away and drove back through the beginning of Franklin on Sunday evening!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)8 -

Like my grandmother, who came to London in the late 30s and left her baby illegitimate son with her parents in Ireland, and had to decide whether to go home, or stay in England and maybe not see him for years. I was there after her first heart attack, in her 80s, when she was apologising to him in the hospital and saying 'I couldn't go back', and even though he was fine, it had clearly been preying on her mind for years.

Mooch about town and found some summer trousers in a blue and white tile sort of pattern.
Thinking they'd work with a nice white tee or top and some sandals (which are also on my look-out list). Coupon free so a good find.
I think there's a great deal that's almost incomprehensible regarding the Russia/Ukraine situation. War is now a far removed concept for many in the country under a certain age, unless they have a loved one in the services. Understanding how close we are to something catastrophic taking place is quite a feat for many I think...Wealth is not measured by currency10 -
