@PipneyJane, those yarns are beautiful! The natural black is a special thing of beauty, but would the aran pattern be lost in the dark? Or do you just love a challenge?! I do think it's something special, though.
Storm-wise, we have come out of it lightly though we had an hour's slushy snow this afternoon. We had a video from our daughter, driving towards Otley, showing steady snow, and not long after both she and a friend's husband (driving completely separately) got stuck in heavy snow for a while. Quite scary, but both cars got moving again and soon made it home. Meanwhile here in town, where we are quite sheltered, the sun came out again and the birds sang!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

It's not been too bad here in my bit of SW London. Something did hit the roof with a clonk at one point, but I went out and walked all round and the roof seems fine. A few trees down, mostly along the river (Wandle). Two actually across the road (buses on divert for a while). And lots and lots of small to medium branches that don't look like much but could still give you a nasty bump.Fashion on the Ration 2025 - 1.5 coupons remaining

@Diminua, you have taken me right back to being in South London in the great storm of October 1987, and getting a taxi to work because no public transport was running. The Old Kent Road was substantially cleared by the time we got there but was still a mass of small twigs from the plane trees, and the side roads were still littered with branches.
I loved living there, in fact the year before I'd been in a battered old flat off the Old Kent Road, which overlooked a terrace which still had a gap where a bomb had fallen some 45 years before. Walls of houses still had ghostly brick outlines where adjacent houses had been attached: someone's bedroom or bathroom had just been wiped out but the inner wall of it remained with a trace of paint and buddleia growing out of any available crevice.
And on a more current note, I resisted a couple of charity shop finds yesterday on the ground that I have Enough Stuff. Not sure how long that resolve will last! Today I've been repairing some small holes in one of DH's posher tee shirts but jersey is horrible to repair so he may have to save it for under a jumper.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. PipneyJane - your wool looks beautiful, lucky you!!
Today's wind had been the worst for us, trees roofing tiles etc havedown, road closures and the like, other wise it's just been so noisy, so didn't get enough sleep worrying if the roof was going to flying off!! Anyway all is fine.
I don't know if I mentioned but my sleeveless jumper was completed and fits, that was a wip from a couple of years ago and now I'm knitting a jumper for next winter with some wool I had already bought and completely forgotten about, it's slow going but I've nearly completed the sleeves, I like doing two at a time, bit like knitting socks but still taking it easy.
I made a lemon cake at the weekend but I've not bought it down to the hall as it turned out more the size of a biscuit, you can't get the flour these days and I think the flour I used was much older than covid!! I'll try harder next time.

Hi all, much worse here last night than Friday but no damage, though I did spend some time this afternoon helping next door sort out a wayward tarp that had escaped from the patio furniture and restore some pots to a safer place.
@Cherryfudge We have plane trees in our road here and in the 35 years I have lived here we have only lost 1 due to the wind but we've had a few branches come down. I live quite close to the river Mersey, which is currently doing it's best to flood Manchester higher up than here, and the wind just comes roaring in from the Irish sea and the Atlantic. The trees must be 90 years old so they are doing quite well considering the battering they have taken over the years
Take care everyone9 -
I took the day off today (comp time for evening/weekend work) and left town. Considered going to a spring fed pool 2 hours west of us, but decided against it due to high winds. Went 3 hours southeast instead. Went wading a bit in a cold river, then came out and walked a bit, then waded some more. Drove around and looked at smaller camper trailers (tow-behind caravans) as we’ll probably be downsizing ours soon. Hung out until I started fearing I’d end up sun burned and exhausted, then drove home. Lovely mental break. Oh, and it was raining when I arrived home. Apparently I should leave town more often, as we’re currently in a severe drought.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9

Wow, that sounds lovely and refreshing, Twibble Dee (although maybe not the three hour drive). I’m guessing it was on country roads and not too much traffic?Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7

Good to hear everyone survived the storms.
I've had a few difficult weeks. A friend of mine died and as she was a prominent member, the WI offered to do the catering at the wake (I'm the President, so I offered!). It was originally afternoon tea for about 100 but the date changed and the numbers went up and we ended up catering at lunchtime for 180 people! Well, the WI rallied round and I had lots of bakers and volunteers so we ended up having plenty of food and help. It made me think about celebrations in the war years and how everyone would come together to do their bit. When I was worrying about if we had enough food, I could almost hear one of you saying, "Don't worry, there is always the emergency biscuits we have stashed away if needed"!Stash busting challenge 2025: 0/100 £0/£100 Fashion on the ration 2025: 0/6612 -
